Com certeza! I've enjoyed it since the early 1960s, when Stan Getz first brought João & Astrid Gilberto to the USA ... I thought Astrid Gilberto
was the Girl from Ipanema. A few visits to Brazil have brought me into contact with a much wider world of music ... axé (Bahian rock), forro & sertanejo (their versions of country), samba, pagode, the list goes on.

No...that's a lot of salt.
But he is just jealous of my HUGE 40-HP engine, my S1 Wheel Pilot, and the fact that my boat blasts by his in any conditions...

I suppose I deserve that.
It was a great weekend down here for sailing. The river was packed with sailboats, unfortunately I was not one of them. Someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse on some great Jags tickets and I never even saw my boat. Interesting note and (sales plug for Jax) though, there were slips available at the Stadium (municipal marina). I would have thought that they would have been booked months ago. Had I known that, I would have sailed to the game.
I had a blast, saw a good game and I got to enjoy sailing as a spectator. All in all still a win win

It was a great afternoon sailing today on Narragansett Bay. Temp hit 70F. 5-10 kts winds made for a very relaxing sail. Glad I waited with pulling Vrijheid out.

Saturday was a great day to be outside, 52 F.Wolfeboro Bay had on / off spells of light breezes, but otherwise calm. A fleet of 420s in the bay were trying to have a race...just a drift race. I was rigged for sailing, but ended up motoring family out to my brother's island place when his boat broke down. Spent the afternoon closing up the island cottage. I might hold out for sailingThanksgiving weekend...

After my son's soccer game loss, we drove down to Kemah and picked up "Nameless", my 1999 . We moved her to a mast up storage location so that in the future we could just back her into the water and go. After 45 minutes of leasing paperwork and 1 hour of rigging, we were off.
My brand new 2010 50HP Tohatsu had to be broken in so after we left the no-wake zone...I thottled her up to 3500 rpm. At this level the new motor wasn't too loud and we easily made 12 mph...full ballast. After 1 hour of that, I took her up to 4000 rpm...18 mph(quite loud at this level). I did all this while on a close reach with both sails up...gotta lot of strange looks. The wind was pushing 12-15 knots...so it was breezy. Most boat were reefed and furled. In order to maintain stability, I had to put the rudders down, as there was quite a chop...I also had the keel about 1/2 way down. I killed the engine after about an hour and just sailed.
At 12-15 knot wind speed and full sails (main and jib), we were heeled over pretty good (no inclinometer yet). We tached back and forth for about an hour...the wind was great and "Nameless" sailed great. Very little weather helm. A 31'Pacific Seacraft with a full main and jib was on the same close reach with me and I could tell he was trying to pass me. My Mac out sailed him upwind and pointed better...I know the PS31 is a heavy ocean cruiser...but I took joy in out running him. He was actually making up a little ground initially...then I tilted up the engine, tightened the boom vang, tightened up the jib & main, and he started falling back. After about 30 minutes on that reach, he tached off and abandoned the "race".
We were about 8 miles from port, so I lowered the sails, tied them down and cranked up the motor. I finished the breakin a 4000 rpm...then opened her up. Wide open she achieved 28 mph...again rudders down and keel at 1/3 mark. With the keel all the way up, she was very unstable in the chop...so I left it down a 1/2. As I got close to port, I opened the ballast valve while motoring..."Nameless" got very, very, unstable. I will probably never again sail or motor her w/o balllast.
It was an awesome day...even with some pouting & whining from my wife and youngest son.

Yesterday we had winds 30+ to 60mph! No sailing, but a good day for barn cleaning. Two hour drive to the north - Twin Mtn...18" snow! Today 5 to 12mph on Wolfeboro Bay the 45F high air temp will feel like 39F! Maybe not a shorts day!

Edit update: Great day for a fall sail, air temp 50F +/-, polypro shirt & sweater kind of day, wind as predicted 5 - 12 mph or there about. Two hours of sailing back & forth!

To all of you guys that are sailing at this time of the year,
YOU ARE BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yup real boring,you would be having more fun over here with record rain falls and high winds along with freezing cold conditions,infact the weather is so *%^& that i cant go out and sail my boat!!
so i dont see why you lots should be having fun when i am not!!
so stop it now!!

Today it is 60 F and sunny with 7 to 10 mph breeze and we are out sailing.
