John, what kind of winds did you have? Point of sail? Just amazed you were able to keep her upright with all that rag flying. In the video, your heel didn't seem extreme at all.... and this is all before the wing-dagger keel.

you are going to have to start keeping track of what kind of these 40 footers you are passing. I need to see how they compare to mine........

Or, you could just trailer out here and stay for free.......and we could test them side by side.

Check out the sail shape in Highlanders video...beautiful....this is probably a good demo of how a well-sailed, 'disadvantaged' sailboat beats a bigger 'faster on paper' boat....also known as being PHRF-ferorated...

Here is a nice vid shot of the head sails & loose footed main sail , the problem with me shooting the video's is I am the only one on board who know's how to sail my boat cutter rigged . As I move forward and put the boat out of balance she loses some speed , Alex is to busy trying to keep the boat on a steady heel as he is worried about crazy me going O/B and not being used to all the lines on my cutter rig
Now if someone else was shooting the vid while moving up forward I would be able to adj the sails accordingly & not lose any speed also you can see near the end of this vid the sails begin to flap as Alex begins to point the boat to high into the wind which is really easy to do with the big 20" steering wheel it requires very little effort to change point of sail
I will be installing a 4ft genny track on each side of the cabin roof right beside & in front of the winches at the toe rail for the genny sheets as the original genny tracks are too far aft now they are OK for the Spin sheets though, this will give me the ability to get better sail shape on the genny & hopefuly increase speed

Less work to put twingers on the cabin top and pull in those sheets than a whole new set of rails.

Only thing with twingers is if I furl the genny half way I'd have to get up on deck & move them forward but I guess I could make them ajustable between the stanchions by attaching them to a movable line might try that first !

What are twingers?

Twingers are basically blocks that one side opens up so as to allow you to slip the line into the block pulley without having to undo the hole line and run it back through all your blocks
Now if I were to run a line between both stanchion bases then attach a twinger block to that line at the twinger block base then run another line forward and aft to the stanchion bases going back to the cockpit i could slide the twingers back & forth as I furled or unfurled the genny part way

The are also typically positioned to move the aft end of any sail closer to the centerline of the boat for best upwind performance. some hook to the eyelet on the sail, most move the sheet boat connection farther forward and more centered. But as john pointed out.....Blocks that can be opened when you want......are a wonderful thing.

I like that fore-aft slide idea. That would work well on the hunter when the dinghy isnt on deck. A little tougher on the Z with the dinghy on deck
