The 58 has the Becket (where the sheet starts on the top of the block) which matches the original sheet system.
Here is a recent picture from the Chesapeake sail on day 3 "Small Craft Advisory sailing" (we broke another rudder). You can see how angled down the cam is. I used to race Hobie Cats and expect that when I flick my wrist I can easily release the mainsheet. Not so when the cam is pointed up (another cheapo Macgregor design slight). With the OEM gear you literally have to stand up and yank upwards to release the sheets when the are under pressure (no safety design here).
Unless Garhauer points downward like this unit I would not personally use it (they have great parts).

Got it. You need the "becket" to tie off the end of the sheet. I didn't realize that ...never looked at the block that closely before.
Thanks,
Jim

Here's our Garhauer mainsheet rig, modified to yield a 5:1 ratio.

J,
Your links don't work...is your photobucket account maxed out?
Parrothead,
Thanks for the link to your mod. Do you remember how much for those two pieces of your mainsheet system?
Cheers,
Jim

Sorry, Jim. The lovely Garhauer fiddle blocks came with the boat in 2005 [as part of a kit of several "upgrades"] - I don't recall a unit price. The dealer set up the original Mac blocks as our boom vang.
I added the snap shackle immediately, the Harken 150 cleats in 2006, and the bits for the 5:1 setup last season.

I used to use the Harken 053 and 058 as direct replacements for the Mac Mainsheet blocks.
I now use the Garhauer 25-01 US and 25-08 US.
I convert the Mac mainsheet blocks to a vang, which is the MacGregor vang, add a snap-shackle on the bottom, and a longer line (21') so it can be used as a preventer (attach the snap-shackle to the stanchion base by the winch).
