I think if you get into an area with strong tidal or currant & large swells like going through a staight a 25hp ain't going to cut it, I've been through 25ft swells with my 22' fishing boat & the 140hp would just barely get us over them swells & that was only doing 4-6 mp/h @ wot by the time you were cresting the top of the swell then you have to throttle back to an idle on the way down the other side !!!, if you get caught out in that kinda weather with a 25hp your not going any where you just have to ride out the storm !! . but all in all it all depends what your needs are , what area you are in , and a big engine is not going to do you any good unless you have the skill & ability & seamanship knowlege to know what to do with it , one time out in the middle of lake Huron while sailing a 17' Siren with a 4HP kicker with a crew 1crazy lady sailor & another friend who just happened to be a sailing instructor we got caught out in a squal with 15-20' swells 6hrs later we sailed into Kincarden harbour on about the forth try after figuring out the breakwater swells at the harbour entry , soaken wet with about 12" of unwanted water ballast in the small cabin man what a ride my sailing instructor friend who happens to be a C.A.F. hellicopter pilot ! said he had never experienced anything like it not even on 35-40" sail boat
, not recommended
but it does happen Mother Nature does not always give us a true forecast
Lucky for us that little Siren was one super little sail boat & I had the weighted keel locked down
