David, what no one else has told you is Silicon spray. Both in the channel (which should be clean) and on the boltrope of the sail as you feed it in.

I have only ever bent the sail onto the furler with the mast up.

I have wondered if a partially furled headsail constitutes a storm jib for racing. If not then logic dictates that you may need change headsails on the water.


Think of the load of a big genoa on a 20mtr long furler, without lubrication.

But Silicon spray is the answer, on the boltrope and as far up the channel as you can reach.

Check Whitworths ect.

I finally raised the sail by rubbing a candle on the bolt rope which allowed it to side easier inside the foil. The bungy cord trick worked a treat
As for transporting it I have decided to detach it from the mast hound and move it further up the mast so there is no overhang. In part as I think this will be quicker than lashing an extension to the mast to hold the drum and also I plan in storing the Furler (and sail) off the boat (and therefore out of the weather)

An update and revision on my previous reply in this thread. I said that because that's the way I had always done it...up til now. This time, after thoroughly reading and understanding the CDI instructions, I installed the genny on the furler with the mast up. It is much easier to do it this way alone, than it is to do it on the ground with two people!

Now I have another problem to fix. When furling in the genny, the horn on the furler halyard top fitting catches on a different halyard block, pulling that line into the action, causing the furler to stop. This had happened before on the water, but I had always managed to work it out. Now I want to fix it. Has this happened to anyone else? Ideas to relocate the block?

Just a thought..... why not put a shackle (say a long D twisted) on the block so hopefully the extra length might get it further away fro the hound and hopefully further away from the top of the furler.

Thanks David - that'll be the easiest thing to try first, otherwise I'll need to mount an extra hound.
