Yeah John - - - I was at Calville Marina about three weeks ago and was shocked - - - the fuel dock, marina store and guest docks are NO WHERE NEAR where they were 3 years ago - - - all had to be moved as the lake lowered. I have not launched my Mac there since 2006, and I don't intend to - - - mostly because of the Zebra mussels and the 15 miles between the lake entrance and the marina. It's a huge lake - - - great for exploring - - - BUT - - - -

I learned about the power-loading issue from comments on this list. That said, I've never seen a sign posted at any ramps I have used in the states of WY, UT, NV and CA. Many trailer sailors launch, rig and sail single-handed. There are several ramps that have no docks adjacent to the ramp. Power launching and power de-launching is the only safe or plausible method to use in these areas. Perhaps it is possible to launch or de-launch using ropes but without getting wet and taking twice the amount of time it's doubtful.
Is sailing all about rules or can it be freedom?

Just another reason not to power-load - the churn brings up all kinds of cr*p from the bottom, and that all ends up in your engine... and then you store it that way! (assuming you don't do a rinse, which for fresh water is usually not done). So, if for not other reason, don't power-load because you'll silt up your nice little motor!

Unfortunately yes

I have a large dual seadoo trailer and in low water months on KY and Barkley Lakes (Late Aug thru early Apr) I have twice dropped the trailer off of a ramp (2 diff ramps...call me a dumby if you must). These were public ramps and the ends are not marked. Fact is I have yet to see a ramp in this area with the end of the ramp marked (other than the Marinas) ...guess you are just supposed to know where it drops off and I didn't. Easy recovery though and no damage either time. For what it is worth I have yet to do this with my fishing boat (knock on wood).
