Does anyone know what diameter and pitch prop MacGregor is installing on their factory installed 60 E-Tecs?
Mine was installed by a second party, and I'm not getting the rev's at WOT that I should. I could play hit and miss, but I'm sure MacG has already done all that.

Should be an Evinrude prop 14x13. What is yours and what RPM are you getting at full throttle?

I'll have to check prop size tonight. Is it stamped on the hub?
At WOT I'm generally in the 4700-4800 rpm range. I think it should be around 5500, shouldn't it? I'll have to get out the manual to verify.

Mine came with a 13.75x13. When boat was new with no cr@p on board I used to get 5600rpm for 16.5knots (GPS)
Now that it is fitted out for comfort :P I only get 5100rpm for a max of just over 14knots.
I suspect I might need a 14x11 prop for a loaded boat.
Both those speeds are without ballast.

My 60HP Etec was provided with a 13 3/4" X 13 aluminum prop.

I understand that a stainless steel prop will move the boat about 3Kts faster, because stainless props are thinner and more efficient. Is this true?

Where can one buy a stainless prop for the 60HP Etec?? Perhaps, the factory will provide one as an option??

I've been advised to get a couple props, one for cruising and one for pulling skiers and such. Ive also been advised against stainless props because they transfer any hits to the lower, but a aluminum prop will take the hit itself. can anyone couch for these ideas?

Am very seriously thinking of dumping my 50hp E-tec, it is very economical and light but have had no end of trouble with trying to get it to to run smoothly at all speeds and it definitely doesn't like running anywhere in the 1500-3000 rpm range.
The mixing oil bottle finally leaking more so that we used a bottle of oil for a tank of fuel after repeated requests for this to be fixed under warranty was almost the last straw but then to find that the only dealer within 200k's didn't have any oil topped it off.
Am really concerned about taking this motor away this year especially with the crappy dealer network.

Mine came with a 14x13 prop. I had it shaved down to 13.25x13 after hitting a rock and having it rebuilt. I get 16-18 knots WOT with bottom paint and a 180 lb weighted keel. (50 hp) At high altitude (6,000 feet or more) I switch to a 14x11 which can get me to about 11-12 kts. Ideal RPM for the 50 & 60 Etec should be 5750. I get 5600. With ballast and/or 4+people on board and geared up for multi-day trip, everything drops down, of course.

Bob,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Quite unusual for these engines.

No matter whether you're in the US, or overseas, one of the primary concerns must be: Dealer service.

Even here in the US, it is easier to get service on some things, in some states than others. For instance, I don't think much of the Suzuki service in my area, but Mercury is outstanding. I would like to have an E-Tec here, but they say E-Who?

So, there you go. Go with what can be fixed.

Check out E-Bay. There's an oil-tank and oil pump that goes for $169.00. Sure, it should be covered by the warranty, but you might get E-TEC to reinburse it.

Think this comment by Rich sums up my major concerns.
No matter whether you're in the US, or overseas, one of the primary concerns must be: Dealer service.
We have now had to shorten or cancel several trips due to concerns with this motor whereas with almost any other brand there would not be a problem especially Yamaha, Merc, Tohatsu or Suzuki, I doubt if there are more than three Evinrude dealers across the whole north coast of Australia and even then they will only be part time dealers except maybe on the east and west coasts, but when their dealer in the boating capital of Victoria doesn't carry their special oil it sums it up.
Where we were last year we had a minimum of 1500 k's one way to the nearest dealer almost any other brand would not be a problem so I guess even though most E-tecs may be ok, anywhere away from major coastal capitals is going to be a serious problem for Etec's when one isn't.
I will be contacting BRP direct as after three years and still almost exactly the same problems as we had on day one I think I have been patient enough.
Re the props we use two props depending on load and change down/up to the pontoon prop when the WOT revs get below 5200 or min 5100 the differences in top speed are dramatic but we use all aluminium props due to the high risk of hitting obstacles where we use the boat usually.
Note we have used a 15hp Honda motor on our dinghy since 2000 with absolutely no problems except not being able to get the revs low enough for specific trolling and it has done ten times the work, ten times the abuse for no stress, maybe I should look at how to mount it, if the etec fails in an essential remote situation.
While I initially thought it was a good idea for Macgregor to specify Etecs, I now think it is a serious mistake as this could cause major problems for some customers where they do not have dealer backup.
Re the oil leak we did notice this at the start but were continually told it was just spillage etc until last year when it became worse but the last trip it was constantly dripping, we are now told this is not the only one and they THINK it may be caused by road transport? but will see what happens.
