if i decide to step up ill got for a 35ft keel boat,im more than happy with the advantages of my X

It looks okay so far but I would also like to see what is in the aft section of the boat since it is such a big berth in the '03 M.
If I was in the market for my first power sailor boat I would give it serious consideration if the price was comparable. As far as upgrading I would have a case of Ten-Foot-itis and jump to a 36' boat. It is not an upgrade but merley another choice for the same target market Macgregor has. It does not look to me to be worth that much more than a Mac.

Thanks for posting the link to the photos. theEDGE is definitely not a boat that one would "step up" to from an :macx: or an :macm: -- but rather a direct competitor. I personally think it's great to see it coming to the market as a validation of the power-sailor concept. As stated in their press release,

I really don't think this will be much competition for the M.

Now if I owned an Odin I would definitely try to unload fast. I am sure this will kill any new sales for their 820 and maybe their 29 foot too. That is if the Edge has a swim platform and is at least fifteen thousand cheaper this would be a no brainer.

Beam is great but trying to figuare out how they get a 8-6 interior width on a 8-4 beam.
Dont like the 1-7 draft nor the 1600 lb fixed ballest.
Todays fuel costs with a min. 5800 lb towing (boat ,engine,trailer,water and fuel) I think it's a heavy maxed for trailering. With all gear,batteries it very well could top out to 6500 lbs towing.
Will take a 75 hp to stay even with a Mac.X and burn more fuel.
Have to take a look at it when it hits boat shows.

Bet I'd still get my big feet stuck between the pedestal and the cockpit seats rushing forward to reef !

I like the idea of competition improving the breed. That massive roach in the main will be interesting to tack. I bet they sell alot of boom kickers to eliminate the topping lift.

More powersailers on the water can only be good. :D

Can't wait to see the under body and that folding rudder. :?:

I don't see a rudder in the photo is it under the boat?

The boat has a VARA rudder system. It was originally designed for the Henderson 30 by Glen Henderson before he went to work for Hunter.

Its a pretty ingenious system. The rudder is located in an oval rotating cassette built into the cocpit floor.

Check out the Hunter website. I think they still use it on their larger day sailors. Maybe the 21.

I think Hunter has done a decent job with the boat.

Hunter or Catalina do not release MSRP's on their boats. This allows the dealers to establish pricing for their market areas. My guess is the boat will sell in the low $40's with engine. That would end up being a $5 to $8K premium over a new, loaded MAc.

The boat ahould sell. It will be built better and it will perform better. However, I do not think it poses any real threat to annual sales of the Mac. The factory still cannot build enough to meet demand each year.

I really like the sail plan on the Edge. Nothing like a fat head main with a big roach.

I would like to see a close-up of the steering pedestal. Although I can't really tell from the pictures, it looks like it may have a Teleflex steering system like the Mac.
