ROAD SOLDIER...whatever you do, do NOT fly that spinnaker in stormy weather. practice first in gentle breezes. There is plenty of information on handling spinnakers in your local library. The spinnaker pole is used to hold one side of it out in front of the boat. The boat end of it fits to a "snotter", a ring mounted on the leading edge of the mast at about nose height...that's why itys called a snotter..you can bang your nose on it.
The spinnaker pole end clips into the ring. And should be parallel to the water sticking out either side. I have just fitted one to my mast. Being a cheapskate, I made up my own timber ends on a $4 length of 2 inch aluminium tube...it works fine.
The ends from a sailing shop can cost up to $80. And the whole pole...$$$$hundreds.

Road Soldier, you say you got a "spinniker"? Wow! Have you practiced your man-overboard drill? The reason being it's hard to walk on water unless you're you-know-Who!!

And I do agree with you that He has a great sense of humor!! And glad to see that you do too.

Welcome to the world society of those of us who pour money into a hole in the ocean, and enjoy doing it! BTW on all that other sailing stuff; well it's enough to say that experience is the best teacher. But remember to pay attention and to learn from your mistakes - or you'll be pouring more than your share of money into that hole.

I'll get back to my in a day or so and take some closeup photos of the gear I have...While you are waiting, get to your local scrapyard and get a length of aluminium pipe...I think mine came from those reticulation systems that local councils lay on parks and gardens to water them...then move them on to another site. about 2 inch.
For ends it is a simple matter to fit as securely as you can two snap shackles...I used aluminium ones. Thjey do not have to be expensive SS ones. For fixing, i used a length of timber like a thick curtain rail with a slot cut into it for the shackle. I used wooden pegs to fit the shackle to the '"curtain rail" then pressed the " curtain rail" tight into the end of the alum. tube. hope this helps. Puggsy 06

Was thinking something like that to pole out my 150 Genoa for light wind and wing-on-wing sailing.

How long do you think for that application?

Not sure if I want a Spinnaker...yet.
