It seems strange that no one has bothered setting up an Aussie group as such here yet as there must be a few macs out here now.
It would be great to know where we all are because while this board is absolutely fantastic for getting the best out of our boats there is nothing like seeing mods etc in "the flesh".
This thread is a great start and hopefully it will get something rolling.
Would love to see 30-40 macs lined up along a beach somewhere.
They tell me the Gippsland Lakes is a great spot.
We will probably be looking to come down the WA coast a bit next year but it is too cold and wet near Perth .

I'll stock up on warming rum if you do make it down to our "wet and cold" environment (or would you think mulled wine might be more suitable)
Just make sure you don't head SW during our summer when we can have temps in the 40C's.

Not only the temp. but the ' sea breezes' at 30 knots and the winter swells that can crack in 10 fathoms of water...

That was my impression Pugsy, have no real wish to launch South of Canarvon and South of Shark Bay or Kalbarri would take some convincing.
There probably are nice little pockets where you can get out sometimes but Prefer the Northern waters in the winter and Summer would love to try Tassie but with $3000 to get across by ferry it's a bit steep unless we can organise a group thing by sailing across?

Due to my time constraints (still working ) I am unable to organise anything or even get the location listing together, but am happy to contribute when I can.

Maybe somebody wants to nominate himself to gather all the details.

BOBLEE...Once did a winter season working at Shark Bay....during the tourist season...at a resort.
Lovely place for a Lots of shallow water but when has a owner worried about that!.
I would really like to get back up there...especially now there is so much going on in the northwest.
It stretches the memory, but I think i saw my first up there on a trailer...I was impressed even then...mid 90's...were they around then?

We live in Tassie ,have a 26m that we keep in Hervey bay. Did the bay to bay race this month .Lots of fun,175 boats,think we finished 174.
We will be picking the boat up and travelling to hinchinbrook island in july,Zoe bay is the destination,then slowly bring the boat back via magnetic island,andlady musgrave island,which we did last year.
Intend to bring the boat back to tassie for our beautiful summer and cruise the dentrcasteaux channel and huon river which is a world class cruising area.
It would be lots of fun to meet up with other Macs and if anyone intends to come to our beautiful island this summer,we would be happy to give you any help,advice etc, A group of victorian trailer sailers of different types come to tas each year in January, Feb. so the Bass stait ferry can accomodate you.

I'm new to this discussion board. I bought a recently imported 2004M a couple of months ago and am looking forward to catch up with some fellow owners. Have raced the boat a few times at Geelong Trailable Yacht Club (GTYC) with pretty poor results, but have lots of cunning plans to improve the performance of the boat.
Have lots to discuss, however one thing at a time I suppose. Currently there is no registered Class Basic Handicap (CBH) for the M. The CBH listed is for the X, which is a very different boat to sail. To my knowledge, prior to requesting to get a CBH a set of class rules needs to be submitted. To push it further, I suppose that we would need to form some form of Association prior to putting a set of rules together.
I have no idea on how to put an association together, but if no one else will, I'll have a go at putting something together. Surely it can't be too hard, can it????

By the way I live in Laverton Vic and sail at Altona Yacht Club and GTYC.

Fantastic to see the new names popping up from the local blokes, hopefully by the time we get back from winter there will be something local being formed.
Brianhar there is a fair chance we will be down at Geelong again as we were looked after extremely well there and from here we don't see a traffic light but will leave it till summer.
Would be great have a get together down there sometime but don't know about the racing bit thats getting a bit serious .

One of the blokes on the Whitsundays trip was from down your way and the only reason we haven't been over there is the ridiculous cost, his boat was an called "Miss Macgregor" and he definitely gets the most out of it.
UEV If it was summer may be tempted to come down but cold and my joints don't mix anymore but hopefully someone will take you up to bounce around some ideas.

I'm prepared to nominate myself to try to keep track of Aussie members, albeit in an amateur way. It will give me something to do while Oskar is laid up awaiting trailer mod and I'm laid up with a bung knee

There are currently 87 pages in the macgregorsailors.com Members list, but I cant see any easy way to sort them by location. It is a free-form field, and is often filled in in various ways, or not filled in at all. Still, without infringing on anyone's privacy, it should be possible to extract some of the information in their profiles and present it in a way that helps people locate other Mac owners in their area.

I'll give it a go and post an extract to see what people think. I'll probably be told to pull my head in

I have to contact Phillip so will ask him if he can help with details of names or contacts etc although I expect many boats have changed hands.
Want to take a spare spreader with me but can't seem to find that size pipe locally so will try and source a genuine one.
