All,
As promised here are some pics of Matt's marina at Low Tide (Glissando is about 3/4 of mile down the channel from here),
Glissando at rest (low tide) at his mooring ball,
Matt at the helm,
and Glissando on the beach at Sea Palling.
A great weekend if I may say

Beached

I just
LOVE these pics of Macs either beached or what I call low tide beached.
I can't wait til I can try the low tide beaching. Anyone around Southern California know where a low tide beaching can be done around here???
I'm thinking of trailering to San Felipe, Mexico to try it there, where I know FOR SURE it would be a cinch - - - the tide goes out 1,500 yards every day - - - almost a mile. Don't even need a hotel. Go back to the boat and sleep and wait for the tide to come back in.
The only problems with San Felipe are twofold (and the reasons I would like to find a place in So Cal to try it), the distance to trailer; about 350/400 miles from me + rigging and unrigging, and, the launch facilities there are HORRIBLE!!!! There is a REAL STEEP ramp at the commercial harbor with no docks at the launch ramp - - - and there is one that traverses the beach at the Hotel Cortez, also with no docks and the ramp is awful. They are currently trying to build some facilities there to attract recreational boaters, but apparently San Felipe is the last spot in Baja to upgrade.

Rick j my Yam is a 50hp,i had it at 5000 rpm on saturday,i dont know what prop size is on it,ill have to look.
Cool

pictures Jim,thats the first time i have seen myself at the helm, the boot prints in the mud made me laugh,i ll have to come up with a plan to keep all that muck off of the boat
pokerrick, the only problem that i had on beaching was getting back off

i think that a fore and aft anchor might make it easier and be carefull when you rev your engine,i clogged up the tell tail hole with sand as i stirred so much of it up,a short wiggle with a pin sorted it out but boy did it give me the willys(does willys translate in to american english)

Diggin' on the photos and report of youz guyzez first adventure of the season! Thanks and good job all the way around! Awesome boat, fine sites and studly sailors! I'm inspired to go out this weekend, though rain is forcast!
I don't know the etymology of "willys." Does it have something to do with the Willy's Jeep? I think it was used in military operations in WW2--maybe the feeling of being an unprotected target on the battlefield?

The willies' possible source might be the "villi" in East European folklore--bad girls who died in their prime and turned into spooks or nymphs.
I'm sure there were plenty of them around WW2

Gorgeous shots, I especially like the pic of the

(at least I think it's an MacX) sitting in the flats with the mooring ball out front! Looks like it's parked in the desert

I think he pom version of willy's will be the same as ours a polite way of saying it gives you the sh1ts or sh1tes as they may say.
Good to see you blokes beaching (

or is that a photo touchup Jim

) we found it best to back in but as then you can step off and on a bit earlier, also a bucket of water at the ladder is a great help to get the sand off or in your case mud, we also have a shower outlet under the seat for whe we do get mud.
Fantastic photo's.
