This project came out fantastic ...now about the ladder please post about the ladder and please post pictures of it in position for use as a stairway and when its out of the way for entry. Post as well what parts you bought and, or had to make....

I can't show the Admiral what you've done, or she'll never see our boat in the same light again. Maybe after retirement I'll attempt some of the great things you've done. What I would really like to take on right now though, is a swinging ladder, to ease berth entry and more importantly, ease exit when something "bumps" in the night. The swinging ladder concept has been much talked about here on a few post strings, but I haven't seen a detailed final product. Like Dave asks, a couple of posts above, can you show/describe details of what you've done, and how it is working out so far in actual use. I see in your photo added to the Mods section a couple of days ago, the cuts/joints near the top and bottom of your ladder support tubes, but can't tell the fine details. I assume one side swings on tubes or rods inserted into the main support tube, but what keeps the other side secure and properly aligned when in the closed position? I've been trying to find the time to come up with something clever, but for me that requires just sitting and staring at the situation for awhile and letting the wheels turn. When the Admiral catches me doing that, there is hull to pay. Guess she can't see the wheels turning... If you've already hit on an elegant (or even just workable) solution, why re-invent it???

it´s just great what You have done, in a MacMod-competition You would probably rank in front . For me it´s almost a reason to change from my to a 2004 .

I actually showed the Admiral this, hoping she will let me spend as much time as I can working on the boat. It's a great idea with the steps. I'm in the process of re-arranging how the cabin is set up.

Hey I was just checking out the mods on Indulgence, nice work btw!
It seems that the doesn't have the companionway steps that all us M owners want to make swivel.
I'm wondering how the X cockpit is supported, since theres no steps?

Dive/Eric - I lost my original pictures of the ladder hardware - I'll sketch up another set. You can see a close-up of the catch in the Mod posting, but I'll do a detail and post it here.

Kevin - I had my lumberyard special order some 1/2" marine lauan plywood (Philipine mahogany, ~cringe~ I hate that term). It was actually fairly inexpensive. I bought some mahogany and also had some on hand for the trim. You can see where the stiles and rails in the paneled doors don't match, hehe - oh well, adds to the character I guess. The finish is lighter than the Mac interior wood on purpose. I browsed through a bunch of larger yacht pics and picked a look that I like. I'll probably redo the galley someday.

The finish on the wood:
1.) Constantine's paste wood filler for pore-filled finish (mix of natural and dark mahogany).
2.) Custom mix of Minwax oil stains (this is one Minwax product that I really like - once I figured out a neat trick).
3.) Two coats of Old Masters spar marine varnish.
4.) Wet sanded to 800 grit with Murphy's Oil Soap.
5.) Light coat of Johnson's Paste Wax.

Oh also, the joinery was dado'ed wherever I could, but mostly lapped and joined with pocket-hole screws using a Kreg Jig (every 2"-3"). I used Titebond III on anything that fit together tightly, and added a little gorilla glue wherever there was gap (like down inside of the dado for the front doorway trim). That's about the only time I use gorilla glue - is when I need to fill a gap, since it expands.

And I assume the spar was sprayed and not brushed?
