Oh man that sucks.. I could see myself doing that .... hey, this looks like a good place to put the motor .. fits perfect, even water proof in case a bit of oil spills out.....

What a great thread, so many good ideas in here. I have bought a boat. I t was a 9' Kodiak

http://www.adventurewarehouse.ca/boat-a ... uffle.html

hope it doesn't suck.

It didn't come with a pump so I have to get that figured out . I think i will do an electric "air mattress" pump or something, to get most of it 80% filled up. then switch over to higher pressure pump for the rest of it.

Also need to get a motor. been really thinking about that weight vs power, and electric vs gas, should it be a "back uop " engine for the mother ship.

I have done some graphs I will try to post them up.

here is the chart I made about weight and power.. note a lot of the engines are the same, .. just different names on the side of them, and some rounding was required because not all HP class lined up 100%

well pretty much decided on the 3.5 hp tohathu.

I can get a new one for abou 1100-1200 or a 2014 used one for like 700.00

Sugestions? .. is this something I should get new in a shinny box?

How often do you anticipate using it? More accurately, how many hours a season do you anticipate using it. If the answers fall into the very few hours range, then used may be fine. Me, I tend to keep motors for a long time, so I purchase new, and take care of them. My 6HP Mercury four stroke on my dinghy ( 9.5 ' Achilles ) only has four or five hours of use a year, and I have had it for thirteen seasons. I did buy it new though.

I dunno, $700 seems like top dollar for a little used Tohatsu. I got a shiny little Mercury 2.5hp 2-stroker (easily tweaked up to a 3.5hp) for just $100 off craigslist several weeks ago. The deal was: $200 running or $100 not. Guy was selling it and a bunch of other random boat crap for a buddy who'd gone back to England. He couldn't get it running, so there you have it. I pulled off the carb, scraped about 2 tablespoons of crystalline crud out of the carb bowl (ethanol is the Devil), cleaned out the jets and tank with spray carb cleaner and Bingo! Runs like a champ. It had just been sitting way too long with the urinary tract infection fluid that passes for gasoline nowadays. It's virtually identical to the little older tweaked Tohatsu that came with my "Foundling" Com-Pac 16. The Tohatsu runs a little "fussier" for now than its virtual twin the Mercury, so I'm likely to just use it on my little Intex Mariner 3 inflatable for the time being. Sure, I'd rather have a little Honda 2hp or slightly beefier 4-stroke with the clutch drive for its more nuanced control on the Com-Pac, but I'm lucky to have what I got. I'm just saying that if you're in no rush and can shop around a bit more, you could almost certainly do better than $700 for a little used Tohatsu for your dinghy. That's certainly the case hereabouts in Virginia...especially if you're willing to take a chance on a non-runner that'll kick with a bit of starting fluid. It's likely just "corn-stipated" with that damned ethanol spew. Happy hunting!

Your in fresh water up there in beautiful Alberta so I would go used. Also, since Canadians haven't invented lying yet, you can trust the seller to be straight.
