You'll need a dinghy to go with that wheelie-boat.

Good luck Gaz, on the sale posting. You can't be dissed for the desire to go into this envelope. I was always taught that 'more was better' but a prudent approach to that, such as yours, is better yet.
Many of us chafe at the 'what if' syndrome, and I presently hope that you eventually come back to us with a positive report of your endeavor. I don't think you can equate dollars spent, to enjoyment gained...
Pardon our collective symphony.

Thanks Crikey,
As The Grateful Dead sing: "What a long strange trip it's been..."
& it ain't over
Basically after flying down & driving up 700 miles for a "deal", I realized I was ~2K more away from a brand new, more powerful, fully waranteed motor with new controls, cables & gauges.
Since I was at the dealership anyway...

In terms of displacement, it's really at this level that the Etec specs rival the Suzuki & Mercs >75HP I believe they are V4s.
The inline 3 90 HP Etec is a good engine, but I think you have to be more careful of how much you carry. I think it may scratch the itch of the 40 - 60HP V2 owners who want a little more. & may consider a mode$t used motor upgrade - since your cabling & possibly your prop may stay.
The 90 for a 90 swap I started, was going to update my technology, but not really "scratch my itch".
That kind of scratch takes $cratch - So here we are
The V6 was just too expensive for a re re repower.
But hear ye hear ye any new to you

or

owners looking to repower & want an E-tec; If you're gonna inve$t in your boating,
the V4 should also be considered if you have a ve$ted interest in the Power [part of your] Sailor
Otherwise, it's really expensive to do twice...

Congrats I'm sure you'll enjoy every horsepower you got, I know I would. I'm still leaning toward the new 4stroke Mercury I-4 at 2200cc's and 363lbs, they come in 75 90 115 and with the Command Trac option come with a V-6 lower unit and can swing a 15in diameter prop. dealer in havasu has the 115's at 8150.00.

Congrats Gaz, Looking fwd to your results
Now the issue will be what prop will work best
Fun times
@Ray...
I like the sounds of that Merc also
Max hp/cc/torque
For the least $$ and weight
I have no issues putting a V6 back there as I am only watching the weight issue, not how many cylinders
Still thinking a 135 or 150 would be ideal for my needs, emphasis on "MY"
My engine weighs 13 lbs less than the V6 150 etec.... so I am not concerned 1 bit about that after 8 years nil issues
Some say they will only consider an OB that weighs 225 lbs or less
I just cannot accept outfitting my powersailor with an OB that does not get the boat up to the speeds it was designed to handle
ie mid 20's, not mid teens
I bought an M because I wanted a power boat and a sailboat, not a sailboat that goes a bit faster than a sailboat usually can
I want to cruise at 22-24 mph at 3500-3700 rpm on plane without breaking a sweat
My 1600cc 75 cant do that, let alone a 700cc 50
When I repower, and I will someday, it will be to an OB with more than 2000cc and most likely DOUBLE my current HP

Hey Gaz
Did you consider the pontoon version over the regular one
Your quote was the E115DPL VS E115DSL
Just wondering if the pontoon version would be a better match for the Mac
From the site...
Built to be a pontoon engine
INTRODUCING THE ONLY PONTOON ENGINE BUILT TO BE A PONTOON ENGINE. This is the first outboard engine built specifically to address the needs of pontoon owners. New features include rubber motor mounts to reduce vibration transmitted to the boat and special gear ratios and large displacement cylinder blocks which provide abundant torque and high thrust. In addition, the Pontoon Series still offers all of the best-in-class features of the entire Evinrude E-TEC lineup.
There must be some reason for the different models
The specs look the same
Cant tell the diff myself
I would as the dealer to explain
If the pontoon series is designed for more torque, more push than top end, I would go with that version

Yes I did. It is more to my liking - but $700 more. My best price is for what they have in stock. I pull the trigger in Dec/Jan. I have 1 outboard for sale on Ebay. I don't know if it's gonna sell, let alone 2
I'll have more choices if I can sell my motors for 9-10k combined. Dont think its gonna happen though. A lot of Inline 3 90's for sale.
The dif is in the gearing. Reg 115Hp =2.25:1. Pontoon= 2:36:1 V4, 115HO= 2.25:1, V6s = 1.86:1
The new Mercs look good. I'm still on the Etec kool aid though. Higher charging & at home winterization, no oil
changing, blah, blah...

I like the new mercs also
Compared to my 75
lighter
600cc more
maybe the 115
good to have options for anyone looking into this
I am still sold on the etec pontoon 150 V6 for me
but who knows
I am not upgrading for many years
by then... they might have a 300lb 300hp for 5000 bucks...

Well, time for an update. Good news, I sold my '06 90hp on Ebay for 4K
It's 500 short of what I would have liked, but there's a lot of competition out there - & Baby, it's cold outside.
The '11 auction ends tomorrow. I don't know if it'll sell yet. Am hoping for over $5100 reserve...
It took two tries for the '06 to sell. Now all I gotta do is get the money- & drop the motor...
Did I tell you it's cold outside
