I propose a date during the week of August 19th thru August 27th, we can ratf up or anchor out at night and the ones with money might consider using the guest dock. I for one would like to anchor out for the practice. I didn't do to well at Lake Mead in April and I need to learn how to do it better.

I will be departing the cool PNW for hot Denver July 3 - 8 and will be free on Saturday, July 7, possibly with my son as well. If any of the Chatfield area Mac sailors would like to host a

sailor for a few hours, sharing tips and lies about fishing, I will be happy to provide refreshents. Please PM me if this can happen.

Due to a very unfortruneate accident on Friday last, my sailing for this year has been cut short. I have suffered an injury to my knee and I don't believe I will be able to get into or out of my boat for some time. I am hoping this is a temporary setback at the worst.

Oh, man, Don... I sympathize. Bigtime. I had been on crutches with my knee since last September, and it's only in the past month and half or so that I'm now back on my feet. My right leg is *much* smaller than my right one as a result. I don't know what your Dr's will let you do, but I advise you try to do everything you can to keep your muscles from shrinking - get on physical therapy as soon as humanly possible. At my age, building back that muscle is a *very* slow process, and I wish I'd found ways not to lose it in the first place.

I'm truly sorry to here that Don. If you get better and need help rigging your boat, I'm always available. we all hope it's not as bad as you've indicated, but know ibuprofen only covers up so much of the joint stuff.
Please stay in tough , and let us know how you're doing.

They had me taking 32 Ibuprophen per day, with 8 x 200 mg. per dose. Seemed like one heck of a lot of drugs, but my Dr. assurred me it was OK, and it turned out he was right. It cut the swelling in the bone, and that's what the trouble was.

Thanks Gentlemen for your kind words and moral support. I just returned from the Dr's office and the news was much better than I had hoped fore, It looks like most of the damage will heal quickly, had the leg been turned an inch one way or the other there would have been a larger break in the kneecap, or a much greater damage to the torn tendon. At this time I am not looking at further surgery in July or August. I have two weeks of healing to do and then be able to flex the knee, if that goes well I might be alright by the end of summer. I am very hopeful at this point that I can sail sometime in July.. Thanks again and lets get together at Chatfield soon.

Harrison, Is that photo you took at chatfield showing 62 degrees F temperature? did you know that photo pointe off toward the dam was in th direction of a drowning taking place that afternoon? We have had two drownings this year in water 53-62 degrees. People think they can swim in 62 degree water, but it sucks the heat out very quickly apparently.

Don, the best time to sail on Chatfield is Sept. even Oct. The kids are in school and the late summer-fall winds are much better.

Yes 65 deg and a depth of 16 feet. I didn't find out about the drowning until after we got home that weekend. I did see some fussing about with the rangers, and over heard one of them saying to another "did you find him yet? My first thoughts were "I hope there hasn't been another drowning!"

See, last year (July 2006) we were at Carter Lake when that little boy was thrown from a tube while being towed around the lake by his drunk father. They shut down the lake while they did their massive search. At Chatfield that weekend, the rangers were very discrete or, they already had the victim.

I agree with you about people taking for granted just how powerful cold water is. In Santa Rosa NM where I teach scuba, the water is 62 deg year round, and even in 1/4 or 6.5mm wetsuits, students can only last an hour or so at the most before they start shivering badly. So obviously dive times are kept to a minimum for that reason as well. Nothing beats a drysuit with argon inflation for cold water diving!
