pop-top mod for venture 222
pop-top mod for venture 222
I have been searching the forums to see if anyone has modified the pop-top on a Venture 222. I would like to figure out a better way of opening it and keeping it open. The current supports are difficult to insert while holding up the pop-top and the bolt assembly puts stress on the fiberglass. I want to fill in all the bolt holes and come up with some other means of securing the top when it is down. Can someone help me with some suggestions?

Pop-top mods are nearly a science in themselves. You might browse through Heath's Venture forum (and a Moderator might move this thread over there, too).
If feedback here doesn't solve your problem, go to Heath's page of Sailing Links (button left), and choose those links that seem Venture-related. Your answer is out there ... somewhere.
Bob White kept a Macgregor website for many years (Heath's links shows "Bob's Macgregor Pages") with lots of links to the classic Macs, but I see that Bob has now allowed his domain to expire ... too bad. You might want to post your questions to the Mac forum at Trailersailors.

I believe it was on the following forum that I read about using gas operated lifts that cars and trucks use on liftgates, hoods, etc.
