Does the furler attach to the same mount as the forestay? If not where? If so, I cannot make it reach and need some advice. Does the furler replace the forestay? If not is the forestay for a 1989 26D a rope and not a wire?
(Mod Note - posted for someone having some technical pHp trouble posting - please reply here, I will move thread to the Venture Board after resolution)

The forestay on a boat with roller furling runs inside the furler. On a 26D or 26S it is made from 1/8" stainless steel cable. It attaches to the bow of the boat with a clevis pin. I can probably post some pictures from my 26S in a day or two.
It is hard to make it reach to put the pin in place because of the tension. With two people I can usually manage it easily, but by yourself it can be a challenge. There is a turnbuckle inside the furling drum, if you're still coming up short you can try adjusting it out.
Hope this helps.
