Bob,

For what it's worth, we would like to have looked at pre 05', but found the layout restrictive in different ways. First off, at 6' the only place I truly have full standing room is at the foot of the companionway; and I want the admiral to at least think she has a chance of me working the galley at least once and a while  . We also both have backs that are aggrevated by sitting 'twisted', which is how we figured you have to be for the earlier galley placement. The sliding galley works great for us, although I still haven't committed to how/what way to go with storage solutions up against the hull freeboard. There's more than enough space in the aft berth for two, even with the galley slid back to it's furthest point (another excuse to have to get cozy  ), although it is much easier to get in/out of the berth from the port side (with galley forward), as the dinette seatback (easily removable; pulls straight up) is in the way on the starboard side.

Regards,
Shane

Hi jda,

Other than that brochure I posted above, and a few mods here on this sight I haven't seen much. I'll do the search that Catigale suggests as well. Cheers,

Good point Shane. I'd have to give serious thought to how much real use the galley would get (I'm 5'10").

Just curious on the rear berth entry issue. I've seen some cool ladder mods here on this site. I was thinking last night that I would look at making the ladder fasten with a swivel/hinge on one side (say the left) and snap in on the other (i.e. the right). The bottom would sit on something secure so as to hold it solidly in position, but the whole thing could be "opened", basically like a door, allowing a wide entry into the berth. Has anyone else considered, or done this? Thanks!

Even with four-up cruising, we still like to cook up top rather than mess up the living area below...maybe the option should be to get whatever boat you want, and then add in an enclosure up top so that you can use the cockpit as a cruising area additional space.....that really solves all the layout problems!

We had a rainy afternoon on Cuttyhunk pond last summer, spent it by putting up the enclosure and kids read books down below, Admiral and I up in the cockpit......rain left in the evening, and I made chicken cordon bleu for dinner under the stars..

Well Currie, at 5'10" standing room is a non-issue, you should have no problems between the daggerboard trunk and companionway ladder. As for the galley on the earlier M models there has been plenty of debate in old old threads and I said then and will say it again, there are no problems associated with the stove beside the starboard settee unless you are a total "AWK" or "ZEEK", I have used it many times with the same ease as my kitchen stove in my house. Any perceived problems are manifested in the imagination and can easily be resolved through reality practice. In practice you will likely do most cooking in the cockpit.

I installed an origo 1 burner stove in, works quite well on our 04 interior. No issues cooking. Quite easy and no issue. We use the cockpit mounted grill 80% of the time anyway. But the 03/04 galley is not a downside by any means, IMO.

Now with 2 M interiors, plus the X...there are going to be 3 different camp! Early M'ers, Late M'ers, and X'ers... all prefering their layout (I am no different, I prefer our 04 layout better than the late M or X). I am sure a lot has to do with what you get used to.

Generally when new people (or X owners) come on our boat for the first time..usually the first word out is 'Wow! look at all this space!' Moving the head and having a built in galley will do that. But at the cost of a smaller head space (which is good IMO), and less room to prepare food (I try and keep it simple anyway), and no permanent fixed huge table (fine with me, I built a small add on table, use it when we need it). Not that the 03/4 interior is superior, but just works for us.

I am sure if I had an X or later M, I would feel THOSE interiors were superior!

I was thinking the 5'10" standing room was more marketing bunk since I can't stand up straight anywhere in my M even in barefeet so I had my wife measure me and turns out I'm 5'11".

When we looked at 26M's, the admiral wouldn't consider the old galley arrangement. I didn't really care much but of course she got her way. Must be a chick thing.
