Anyone here sailing around Atlanta, GA? I'm familiar with lake Lanier north ATL. Are there others? What's it like? I'm used to sailing in the Gulf, which I realize is somewhat different.

I have had my Mac for 3 years now and sailed at several places around ATL. In order of preference:
1. Lake Martin, AL. ******Wonderful*******
2. Lake Lanier, GA. Can be crowded, but nice facilities
3. Lake West Pointe, Ga. Keep an eye out for the bald eagles, good facilities
4. Lake Eufaula, Ga. Bagby or Lake Pointe State Parks - Stay in channel when away from the dam.
5. Lake Blue Ridge, GA. Clean, Ramp can be a challenge
6. Lake Oconee, GA. 26' is max size boat. Put in by dam
7. Lake Harding, Ga. Small
8. Lake Wedowee, Al. Narrow
My dad and I traveled the Chattahoochee River from Columbus, Ga to Apalchicola Bay, Fl. 240 miles - great trip. Mast down, motored for 4 days.

Chatahochee River Trip
River Trip sounds cool. How many hours per day motoring. Enough places to get fuel and provisions along the way? Is the Bay in Florida a nice place to stay? Did you motor back as well, or trailer back. Did you take mast off so no sailing at the end?

For the last month of the season my M has been stored at Lake Hartwell which is roughly one and a half hours north of Atlanta up I-85. It is a large/deep COE lake and so far my experience is the winds are puffy and variable. However, I have not made it to the large part of the lake yet which is some hour or so motoring time from where I launch the boat.
The Chattahoochee River trip sounds like fun. I am planning a Savannah River trip from Augusta to Savannah in the spring.

The trip down the Hooch was very nice. We traveled around 70 miles per day. The first leg from Columbus to the south end of lake Eufaula is 75 miles with 3 State Parks and all the facility you could want. We over nighted at Bagby State Park and passed through the locks at the dam the next morning. The next facility was on Lake Seminole we over nighted on the boat at the marina, showers available. Once you pass through the locks on Lake Seminole facilities are scarce. We had extra fuel and had no problem making it to Apalachicola Bay, we spent a night on the river and motored into the bay the next day. We did leave the mast on the boat during the trip. Once in the bay we raised the mast and sailed out into the gulf. Being that close to the ocean why not deep your keel. My wife and kids dropped us off in Columbus and drove to St, George Island. We trailered the boat back to Newnan. Next trip JAX, Fl to Sanford, Fl on the St. Johns.
