ECM = the Electronic Control Module. Basically the brain box on most vehicles. The thing responsible for adjusting fuel mixtures, ignition, various emission controlling etc. The little invention that made the typical backyard mechanic a thing of the past.

I have had success with All Data which is up to date manuals on my cars online.
Costs about $20 a year, but you can access part numbers, error codes, procedures etc from the factory.
Good manuals for my cars were of the order of $100, so I figured the years I didnt need to service them, I would end up ahead...
