Tide 28 News Update 16th August 2006
My son Michael, is hoping to become the youngest person ever to sail single handed across the Atlantic.
To make this possible we are taking a pair of Tide 28s; Mike in one and myself shadowing in another.
We plan to leave Gibraltar on November 18th and arrive in Antigua approximately 4 weeks, 3500 miles later.
We hope to raise loads of money for BBC Children in Need and RYA Sailability.
We have set up a web site, www.sailmike.com with more information and if you do feel able to offer any support, all contributions will be gratefully received.
We will be taking Mikes boat to the Southampton Boat Show on Friday 15th Sunday 24th September, so if you are able to make it, please say, Hello'. We will be on stand F13 and delighted to see you.
Tide Marine Limited
If you would like to see the Tide28 loking like a bigger Mac26X/M
there is a great video on www.tide28.com
Any takers for a Mac sail across the pond! (its only 2ft shorter after all)
Cheers

The cost is actually quite a bit more than double.
The prices listed on the Tide 28 page are Great Britain Pounds. If you look at the bottom of the page the deposit is listed as 50. I just ran the 35950 through a currency converter that uses real time currency values, and the cost of the basic boat with VAT added is $67781.08.

I have been on one of these boats, at last years boat show! I very nearly bought one because it is a fantastic boat. The only reason i did not was because our 2000X came up at the right price. I happen to think it is worth the extra money and would love to have one.............alas reality check............I do not have 50K to throw at it.
Good luck guys and part of me wishes I was comming too in a third 28.

Cost
I just did the same for Canadian $ and came up with 76,228.70I just ran the 35950 through a currency converter that uses real time currency values, and the cost of the basic boat with VAT added is $67781.08.
For that kind of money I would want more than a skinny 8 foot wide boat.
Getting it delivered to the PNW would really increase the cost.
I am sure I could get a much better bargain here and an even better bargain south of the 49th and sail it back here. But as with most products from Britain it is the currency difference that makes them expensive, those Land Rovers do not justify their cost I'll take any North American vehicle at a lesser cost. Ever investigate the cost of a vacation there??? it is very expensive to buy even basic items in Britain, it is simply not affordable for the average joe.

Here's a thought....
Hey,
Here's a thought... you could, perhaps, pick-up a used boat from Morimaro after they sail across the Atlantic. They don't need 2 boats going back to Great Britain, so perhaps he'll sell you a used Tide 28 at a discount! Plus, he'll have all the necessary papers so that your boat will be legal in the EU, just in case you want to sail across the Atlantic some day.
I can't afford a Tide 28, even with a $10,000 discount and I seriously don't think that he'll want to discount the boat more than that. But, if a couple thousand dollars difference will make the difference in your purchase decision, then, I say, go for it!
I looks like a more solid boat than the Mac, but you would probably need more than a $2000 Ford Ranger to tow it (that's what I'm using).
Good luck,
tomasrey88.
