Besides the water level being a little high right now its great. By the time of the regatta there will be nice beaches everywhere. If you haven't sailed here before you will be in for a treat. Glad you are coming.

This is "our" lake so I can contribute some info on launching.

Unfortunately I have a family reunion in Pittsburgh that weekend and can't attend.

The state boat ramp at Broadalbin is where we usually launch. It is free, fairly new, lots of parking, with a good dock. It is a good place to launch the Mac. Anytime other than a weekend there is usually no wait to launch. If you get there early on a weekend morning if the weather's nice, there might be a prettty good line. In any case pull into line and rig while moving up. If you get to the head of the line before fully rigged, just pull to the right and wave the people behind you past.

If there's a line do yourselves and everyone else a favor and load everything up while the boat is on the trailer, before you launch; then be prepared to launch, park the vehicle and get off the dock as quickly as possible. It pi$$ people (and me) off no end when others launch, then tie up the dock while carrying stuff to the boat.

AFAIK there is no limit on parking there; I've parked there for several nights in a row for long weekends and it's never been an issue.

Update with a new post instead of editing the old one.

It turns out I had the reunion date wrong and we intend to make the rendezvous, so sign us up, Russell. I missed the first online skippers' meeting but will try to "attend" the next few and help Russell answer questions.

We are members of Mayfield Yacht Club. The MYC is in turn a member of a national organization of yacht clubs whose formal name escapes me right now, but if you are also a member of another affiliated yacht club, reciprocal priveleges may be available. We have no guest slips per se but there may be some empty for the weekend so if you're interested contact me by PM and I will do the legwork. The other YC facilities are first class and could be made available to a reasonable number of folks as our guests, but I'm not sure what use they are if there's no place to tie up. Also, MYC is at the complete opposite end of the Lake from Northville/Northampton; I guess 10-12 miles by boat so that's certainly a consideration.

Even if you aren't interested in the Club go to the website and check the photos. There are quite a few from the July 4th weekend which show the flooded slips. The water is back down now so that only our parking lot is flooded, but at one point it was over 2 1/2 feet over the top of the dam; could be the highest ever. We were on the outer banks of NC with the Conch Cruisers and missed the whole thing, but hope to get the Mac back in her home slip this weekend.

The lake varies in height quite a lot and there are quite a number of rocks, shoals, and even some good sized islands which can nab you unexpectedly when the water is down, so I recommend you buy and keep a close eye on the chart. One is available at most local stores or here; it isn't quite up to USGS or NOAA standards but it's quite accurate and certainly good enough. This is an inland lake, not covered by any of the Garmin Bluecharts nor to the best of my knowledge any other of the detailed chartplotting programs, so if you you depend on your chartplotter you're pretty much on your own. Over the years I have marked most of the buoys on my Garmin GPS and can send them in Garmin format to anyone who wants them.

We've been sailing this lake for almost six years and we know it pretty well, so if there are any questions fire away.

Thanks Chip for the input. I am glad it you will be able to make it. I have some photos of the flooding that I will upload to the web site soon.

I have checked with my marina about overnight parking and it shouldn't be a problem I am still waiting on the fees that they want to charge. The best deal is with the campground that told us that each person could purchase two day use passes and they could leave the vehicles parked there overnight(if you are not using a campsite).

I would have liked to get the pavilion for the cookout on saturday but it is already booked at the campground. I can get a hold of some small tents if need be.

So how did you like the lake the other day bermudaBreeze? The weather was great for sailing. I should have had you pull up to the guest dock and chat for a while (afterthought). My wife was just arriving and we were packing up to go out for the weekend. I ended up anchoring at Sunset bay (first time there) and it was nice. After a few hours John friend of ours rafted up to us with his 34' red sailboat(not sure of the manufacture).I was a little nervous with the wind being as strong as it was but the bruce held strong.

All is set with the regatta. I want to put a list of the boat names that are attending on the site. I am guessing your is BermudaBreeze but not sure. Let me know.

There is a flyer on the website you can post up if you would like.

Russell

We were running late, so I wouldn't have been able to stay and chat.

Our boat is the Bermuda Breeze.

I didn't find the flyer on the website :( , could you provide a link?

Also, do you know if we will be able to park overnight in the State Campground parking lot?

Thanks

Russell,
I'm planning on coming over Friday evening. Do you know where I'll be able to park. Can we dock overnite at your marina?

Who will be attending? Do you have a schedule of events?

I know that they have a courtesy dock the very end of my pier. I can see if they can set you up for the night. There is also the minigolf dock right next door. You could ask them if they don't mind you tieing up. Might cost you a round of golf :)

I am planning on using the day use facilities on friday night and Saturday morning before we head out.

Got some good news that Mark T. will be joining us on Saturday and that a friend of his with a MacGregor will also be joining us.

Keep your fingers crossed for fair weather and a 9kn breeze.

I attend and was glad that I did. Sunday turned out to be a great day for sailing. Saturday we sailed in light rain. Saturday night had thunder storms but did bother us too much. I hope Russell plans it again next year.
Russell and his wife were great host. :)

I was not able to attend because my two weeks up there were up on that Sunday. Are there any pictures?

While up there I did meet Rick (BermudaBreeze) and his wife. I'm looking forward to sailing with them again next year.
