8/26 MDR BBQ & Mac Mod Madness!!!
Anyone in the LA area is cordially invited to a very informal BBQ at Marina Del Rey Burton Chace Park guest slips on Saturday 8/26. Plan is to grab some slips, que up some grub, sip some beverages, and celebrate all things Mac. I'm planning on inviting Roger MacGregor and asking him to bring free beer for all - I will update you on how that goes;)
Let me know if you are interested.

What is an MDR?
I'm not in MDR, and don't know what and MDR is. Can you explain please? If it's in CA, it's probablly too long a communte from TX. However, it might be worth it if your temps are less than 107 F.

Do you watch Entourage on HBO? They had a funny episode about visiting the Valley in Summer.Mark Karagianis wrote:It's going to be 106 tomorrow, and even my pool is 90 degrees . . .
Although the San Fernando Valley is only 25 miles from MDR, there sure is a big temperature difference. How about mid-August?
I'm going to be out of state around the middle of the month. How does Saturday August 26th sound?

Hey, that sounds great! I'm already booked for a sail that day with my oldest son & parents, so why not a BBQ?
aya16? Jetta01? Cap'n Steve? You guys game? I'll ask Mike Inmon if he wants to come - and bring his (all-female!) race crew.
I'm sure that we won't have the wind problem in the evening that we had in Ventura Harbor last weekend!

Sounds great, but I can't make the 26th...have some family coming in from Colorado.
I didn't see any of you guys this weekend...
We did a long haul trip up to Oxnard on Saturday morning and back today. About 84 miles total. Pretty nasty weather coming back today. Lightning all around us and then it got pretty sketchy rounding Pt. Dume. It fealt like someone was standing right in front of me with a hose in my face. Luckily after 15 minutes all went back to normal. The mac held up great and did a good job in pretty choppy water.

Rick - MDR to Oxnard ... that's quite an ambitious cruise!
I know what you mean about the spray across the bow of a Mac! Not sure why, but these boats sure do toss some spray when couse and wind are in that certain relationship. It's always been an issue on my 26X - to the point that I tossed my ski-goggles (fit over eyeglasses) into my ditty bag last season. I haven't tried it yet, but that day will come I'm sure! I noticed last week that Leon's 26M is just as effective at throwing up a shower.
Maybe that full dodger is the only solution ...

Frank, the goggles will help for maybe 5 minutes. Then they will be so salt encrusted that they will be useless. Sunglasses, goggles, all NG. No there is no other way except to slow speed (impractical), change course, or get a dodger. See my post on our Anacapa Island trip, which was the same day.
Even before we motored, when we were on beam reach, fully loaded, six adults and full sails, we were getting creamed. We had 20kt wind with 2-3' wind waves on top of the 3' swells. And this was the first time that so much water was landing on deck that it was spilling into the cabin, even with the cover all of the way closed. My passengers were laughing so hard at me (except for the seasick one) from the shelter of the cabin - they said that it looked like someone was throwing buckets of water right at me! Sometimes I could duck and the water would miss me.
