BK, yes it was a slow passage but traveling the stream meant our over the water speed verses over the gorund speed. It is different.

Yes the bar was burned down.

WOT - maby the problem with WOT is the wrong prop's too big or too small. This can create problems with engings. Check your manual. If your outboard can get too many RPM's or too little, then you need a different prop. Check with the dealier or ???.

I got my new Mac26M, went out motoring first - everything went well. On second trip the motor would start but not run. Mechanic found the wires had worn through - due to a faulty installation (i am getting to the WOT).

While the mechanic was installing the new harness - i asked him about WOT.

He said "the ETEC 50 is designed to run at WOT", and he advised at running at WOT every now and again - the noise would be the limiting factor to preventing running at WOT all the time. He said that if you don't run at WOT every now and again, the engine management system will reduce the maximum revs that it will run (????).

So he advised that each time i go out - i run at WOT for a short while.

I always run my push mower and ride on mower at WOT - and the push mower still starts 2nd pull after 15 years (these are both 4stroke).

Cheers

IT sounds like hoohey to me...the part about WOT being reduced...Modern cars have adaptive logic that changes how the car accelerates as a function of driver history, but they dont limit available HP at the top end TTBOMK

Boat technology tends to lag cars, ergo my skepticism.

The Merc Manual says that running at WOT will help get out the carbon build up.

You doubt the power of ETEC? Come drink the cool-aid;)
http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/E-Tec/Tec ... echnology/
"pulls from some of the best marine, automotive, and aerospace technologies" and "The "brain" of every E-TEC engine is its Engine Management Module (EMM), which can perform more than 8 million calculations every second. In fact, an E-TEC has been described as a very simple engine controlled by an extremely powerful computer."

Wow...thats sophisicated.

My toaster has an 8048 processor to see how brown the bread is, which performs 6 million calculations per second too...

So does my keyboard processor....every microsecond or thereabouts it looks to see if I have pushed a key..

Grape Cool Aid for me please

Seems like we could network these devices with my engine and have some kind of supercomputer. Now if it can only tell me how much throttle to use when docking in a cross-wind...

It uses an audio interface and tries a large number of throttle positions until it doesnt hear a CRUNCH....

Data point with by Merc 50 HP BF yesterday.

I finally drained all my last season fuel into the old cars and with a fresh tank of fuel, and 600 pounds of passengers and the 75 pound dink on board, ballast in, made 15.9 mph against a 1/2 mph tide at WOT, 5450 rpm.

All fins, mast, and front hatch up.

Catigale - what year is your Merc 50hp BF?

I am only able to get 5150 RPM's out of mine but a little more speed on my M.

Bought in 2002 but it is a 2003 model year

My gut feel was the motor seemed to purring better than my last outing, and I was using fresh gas for the first time this year...hmmmmm

I think the :macm: has a better keel shape for motoring and the blue hull offsets the sailing performance degradation. All hulls come from the factory blue, although some choose to paint them white of course.
