Yesterday I had an experience in line with the "Light air " thread.

I was stoked at how easy it was to use the vang with it lead aft. I actually used it. Most of the time sailing at 2.5-3 knots so I didnt notice a huge gain but I felt like I was making a difference and percieved gains count too!!

Scott, don't you want to leave your vang off in light air?

55 lbs lead in daggerboard
4:1 purchase outhaul
Cunningham
running backstays
electronic wind indicator system
intermediate reef point

Not a perfomance issue but I added 2:1 purchase on the rudder up haul and down haul.

yes for the most part. We were broad for most of the short while we sailed and I was playing with it to try to gain anything. I was just wowing at how much more useable it is now.

Scott,

I have been considering running my Vang control line aft, but can't quite figure out how to do this. The rotating mast makes this somewhat challanging. Frank C has a nice setup but he has the super duper Grahauler 12:1 rigid vang.

Daniel,

Did you notice a substantial improvement with your cunningham? Does it take much draft out of the belly out of the sail?

Frank M,

Would love to get more details on that racing jib of yours.

running backstays
BB, I;d be curious to see the lower mounting for these. Owning an X I already have a backstay, why go with runners on such a small rig??

Scott - this is a great post.

I was surprised that no one is using a boom kicker, or is the best method touse a rigid vang?

The vang aft w/rotating mast may be a challange. Probably need a swivel block at the base of the mast.

Or just lead the vang control from a clam cleat on the boom rather than from the mast and drop it loose to the cockpit. Gives adjustment control without binding the rotating mast.

BINGO!!!! :)

Thanks Jim, that is a perfect solution. I have been wrestling with how to run the vang line to the cockpit.

I have a spare clam cleat in my goodies box and will try that mod this weekend.

THANKS!!!
