VC-17 Bottom Paint frequency

Post by deacm »

I'm in fresh water on Lake Erie and am wondering how often you have to reapply VC17 bottom paint. Mine was done a year and a half ago and wonder if any of you do it every year for a 'booster'

I would go to the paint company website and see what they recommend. My paint is rated for so many months in the water. Also my primer is a diffrent color so when I see that coming through... it is time to paint. I had to touch up my waterline this year.

Good bit of advice is budget on getting it done every year, then if you don't have to get it done you will have about $1000 extra. If you get regular bottom work done by a diver, and dont let stuff build up to much it should last allittle longer. The diver should be able to tell you the condition of your bottom job. I would recomend getting your own dive gear and inspecting it, yourself though.
