From what your saying I dont think the Mac is for you. Like it was said before the mac is a sailboat first with the ability to go over 15 miles an hour. But not much. I recommended to someone else a while ago that they
have two boats one for sailing (the mac) and one for skiing.

I think you should see if sailing is your cup of tea first. Buying the mac as sort of a poor mans yacht that will do it all is not going to please that person. It sails good, has some nice room inside to camp out in, it will motor at speed to get you to places far away in less time but I think your asking too much if you want to wake board as your first fun factor.

Dont get me wrong pulling some kids around at 15 miles an hour on a wake board is an added plus from the Mac, but I dont think I would buy the Mac if sailing wasnt my first thought.

I agree with all the people that bought the larger engines for the Mac so they would use less throttle to get the same performance a 50 would at full throttle. I dont agree with anyone that might want the larger engine so they could push the boat to speeds it was never designed for. 30 mph
In chop, I think will take its toll on the rigging and hull fast.

One thing I like about the Mac is its safety record. Mishaps are not common even when people put larger than recommended engines on their boats. But most the larger engine folks I have seen or read about use the boat just like the Mac was made to be used.

Youre a young man, and if you are anything like I was when I was young, you want those thrills and push your self and equipment hard. I dont think you would want to destroy a 30 thousand dollar boat for a thrill. So I would recommend you find a used Mac if you really want to sail and have some comfort for your lady friends and buy another used boat to rip around in. I dont want to read in the papers about a Mac that killed seven people trying to break sailboat speed record. And you may be careful but your friends wont be, Havent you herd them say to you things like " lets see what she can do" before?

Now if I was you, or as young as you I would have me a Mac floating in the cove for all my lady friends to party with and a 18 foot mega hp jet boat tied to the back with a 10000 watt sound system that you cant hear
when the engine is screaming at 8000 rpm pulling ole Pete in the back at 80 plus mph, and when you take ole Pete to the emergency room for multiple bone breaks all the while laughing about the fact that ole Pete must have set a record for air when he smacked back into the water at 100 plus mph. Then when the days over you can hold ole petes girlfriend
in your Mac because shes so mad at him for wrecking the week end for her.
AHHH to be young again....fade back to real sitting here rubbing my back because its sore and trying to get a cup of coffee down.

Hi aya16,

Thanks for your post, I was laughing my ass off! You're right, I guess the best case scenario would be to have a Mac AND speed boat for all those funny reasons you mentioned! But I guess I would'nt mind sacrificing speed for the benefit of versatility for at least a couple years and if I really do miss breaking speed records that much, maybe I would buy another speedboat then. It would have a better gaz mileage/performance/size ratio than the one I have at the moment. Man this baby guzzles 95-100 liters per hour plus I dunno how much oil at WOT! To be honnest, I'm sure I would have as much fun on the Mac than I have on my Speedster. Very different fun that is, but still a lot of fun. I'm up for the change I guess.

Dont forget to buy an ascot, the girls like them, also boons farm wine
wont fit in with the Mac or if you really want the boonsfarm stuff put it in an expensive used botlle the girls will never know. Dont let their mothers drink it they will know right off the bat.

candles work great too but dont over do it as the boat does rock when things get a little heavy, dont want a fire you know.

have fun and enjoy your youth I did.......

Look at the crestliner cuddys used, aluminum, light weight, great economy, cuddy,

you can sleep, tow and save money..

Less some here think that I am nuts, (an arguement I woud rarely refute),

I disagree too much here.

Wake boarding plays in wakes........ a 90hp or greater motor on the back of a mac, is not something you should be taking into this condition. Waves yes..........wakes no, we slow down for big waves, the tempation to play in your own wake and others is too great.

I repeat, Do not put a 90 or more on a mac (M or otherwise) and go DO NOT play around wakes with the higher horsepower motors.

IS this thing on..........

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

DO NOT PLAY IN WAKES WITH MACS WITH HIGH HORSEPOWER MOTORS!!!!

Believe me, I am at the forefront of being for 90 hp macs, but I dont plan on hopping many waves with one.......

Now........

The engineer in me wants to tell you how to make it so......

so here is the list of add ons you'll need to make it safely (see if you want to pay for all this)

CB/DAgger board Safety lines (postive engagement fasteners
(existing single lifting lines are insufficient)

External glassed in place strakes/stiffeners/sprayshield

Internal and external honeycomb transom stiffeners glassed in place

Full width internal transom brace (btw you have to remove the aft sleeping deck to glass that baby in.)

Larger external fuel lockers

UHMWPE Mast pad, Mid stays and deck braces for 30 mph continuous operation, (Tightens up the rigging to keep it from banging itself to death)

Heavier duty steering connections at the wheel

That second boat is starting to look alot cheaper.....

Sorry to disillusion you..........and probably nothing I say really matters on this, but I have bent, split, broken, twisted, cracked and dropped almost everything on my boat over the course of the years (and I only have a 50 hp, and my own..........er..........more'n negligible weight.)

(hull, I even bent a mainstay adjusters plates past 90 degrees this in the last couple of days, without breaking the mast.)

You will be much happier with a cheap ski boat to pull the wakeboarder, you could tow a RIB with a 50 hp and probably launch a boarder into muscle spasms with acceleration..or just tow a jet ski........

JMHO of course.

All i can add to this, is that my clan loves the boat. but NO we have not had her sailing yet. NO we have not really sailed that much (3 times for me, never for her, and only once for my daughter) So we honestly do not know what true sailing is like, so when we do, we will be very pleased i am sure.
Our boat has a 50hp...we have 2 adults, 4 kids and 3 dogs that COULD all be on here at the sametime....ok maybe leave the dogs at home...plus all gear...LOTS of weight...we know this...we will be slow. THAT is not an argument...we are fine with this, The MAC allows us to do all of this, comfortably on a boat (it's not a house, so adjustments need to be made), it has room, lots of room for it's size...More than a tent, less than an RV...just right.....we can be on the lake, kids swimming up top, my daughter down below asleep, my girlfriend sunbathing on the bow(getting waved at by the passing boats...we men are dogs)...while i am gazing out at my kingdom...all VERY nice....
The ONLY disappointment i have is that i can not climb to the top of the mast and sit..... :( .... i want a CROW'S NEST DANG IT....LOL....
All and All it is a VERY nice boat...not nice as soom, not as cramped as others, and i can throw it up on a trailer (by myself) in less than 5 minutes (proved THAT this weekend), and be off to somewhere else next week....all at a price i can afford.
If anyone wants to make fun of my boat...doesn't bother me, it aint the best but it's MINE...if they wish to buy me the nicer boat....well that proves they are an idiot LOL...until then comments roll right off my back, but i have YET to find anyone that didn't like it once they got on board...to be truthful, sometimes i climb into it..and just sit...in my private little island....MINE.....ain't life grand.... :)

it's a very inexpensive "cabin cruiser" for 2 people that can go 17mph.
also, if the engine fails, you can make it back to port with your back-up engine (sail).
or, you can sail (your back-up engine) for fun.
bottom line, try finding a brand new 26' cabin cruiser for under $30K (isn't that the current package deal?).
it's an excellent value.
and, if you don't like it...after a year or two you can sell used and not lose your shirt.
