I am new to the board and have gained great knowledge from this board already. I am looking forward to a new purchase of a Mac M within a year. I feel that the Mac is best on the market for weekend and maybe a week of cruising for my family of five. We will have the ability of trailing to different area lakes and an occasional trip to Galveston Bay (Kemah).
My question is how strong is the deck and cabin top for walking on. I weigh 290 and this is a concern of causing cracks on the cabin top when I need to get upto the bow. I own a smaller 19ft. and I had to reinforce the top to keep it from cracking. Has anyone had this problem.
I have been quite surpised at how solid the deck feels underfoot. I doubt you'll have any problems, provided you keep to the non-skid areas... You don't want to 'test' the windows, for example...
Myself and 2 sons all weigh in at about 200lb. All three of us have been on the deck at the same time. Of course not the same spot. Deck seems to be real strong, areas such as hatches and windows not so. Like anything else, all in moderation. I would advise visiting your local dealer and take one for a spin <SMILE>

I dont have an but an , one of my regular sailing buddies is an ex football player at 6'6" 320#. He walks to the front of my 97 20-30 times per year. No cracks.
The MAC will handle the weight...Ive seen several adults walking the decks of neighboring boats...no problems. When any significant weight is topside, the boat ballast needs to be full when motoring & especially sailing.
Get extra wide deck shoes and try to avoid walking on the cabin hatch when it's closed, use the sides. Keep your weight over both your feet by shuffling and don't ever jump up in the air.
If you hear a cracking sound, pretend your on thin ice and get down on your stomach. Then just torque along like you're trying to get out of the aft berth.
