Lady Mac Skippers

Post by Jim Cate »

From reading and participating on the Powersailor Forum for 1.5 years, it seems that almost all the notes are posted by men. - I see references to wives, girl friends, etc., but apparently they don't have much interest in discussing the Macs, at least not on this forum. Can anyone explain why this is?

Well, though we don't know (her) name, Idletime usually speaks of Cap't Jim, so I guess that's one counterpoint, and Ms_Shiba a second. But on balance Jim, I guess there's just too much male bonding around here for many of the fairer sex.

One explanation

Interesting question.
This is a forum about a boat that has equal opportunities for being helmed by either gender. I can think of no tasks or problems related to the running of the boat or it's functions that would differ for men or women with the exception of needing a head for the ladies that can be sat upon, not just stood over.

In other forums I know of at least a couple of cases where the husband and wife share a computer, and she does a great deal of input on various forums but the account is registered in his name, so his signature appears on her postings. Good advice, or serious questions can be readily forthcoming from any age, or any gender, so what the signature says at posting is irrelevant.

I believe Tripp Gal, a welcome contributer here, could probably out sail any male on this forum.

Quoting myself, may I emphasize my own oversights?
It's clear that Ms.Lori is responsible for the capital spending budget, :)
and that Ms.TheyTheirs has very important policy-making & editing roles.

obviously both behind the scenes ... but also behind the helms!
I'm sure many other Ms.Macs wield budgetary authority too, rt.Catigale?

Admiral Catigale rules the roost in our house for sure - she is just so darn good at it who am I to stand in the way...we are an interesting marriage mix of the youngest of three boys and she the oldest of four girls.

She admires the way I go through life carefree and always expecting great things to happen - I admire her for worrying about all the details and being SuperMom and keeping it all together.

Ive found Admirals like to talk more about boating one on one, at clubs or outings rather than throwing stuff out on the web...its probably a privacy issue more than a sailing issue.

We can do our part by keeping the board Admiral Friendly of course.

Actually Catigale and others, I think you may have it backwards. Look at the Sailing Anarchy site...hardly "female friendly"...but seems like lots more females there than here. So, maybe Frank is right on...too docile around here.... Girls just wanna have fun...ya know. Kinda like when you were a teenager....did the girls go for the male bonding, intellectual & analytical boys ... or the rowdy and rude SA types?? :D 8)

When my wife Tina and I race, more often than not she's at the helm; especially on windy days. This is because I'm stronger and can handle the sheets easier than she. The combination works out well. Of course I still voice my opinion on when to tack, etc but we don't always agree.

Likewise at our house. Im silly and make the money. Shes serious and spends it. If anything happened to her I dont think I could pay the water bill.

As for on the boat she seldom even lets me drive. As with Cp't Ron she says, "I steer badly"

Image

As for the board, she spends most of her internet BB time over at Runnersworld.com on the marathoner board or ordering shoes. My older kids like the raw side of SA for a sailing fix also.

Scott,
Someone sure looks comfy on that starboard cockpit cushion, btw. are those cupholders screwed or glued on to the pedestal front, and is that the standard mainsheet attachment point on your pedestal or did you lower it??

Thanks |>

For Audrey she finds No Interest in Boards. She would rather phone or talk it in person over coffee. The boards .. . .willing to take a peek if I insist. . Cozumel Scuba U/W Photo Sailing MGB all of interest to her just not if it means spending time on . . "a bored  " as She says . . .
