Getting together at MDR

Post by aya16 »

Would there be any interest from you folks out there about getting together at the MDR launch ramp a couple times a year?
Let me know, if there is enough interest maybe we could put something together.

I talked to Mike Inmon who is the dealer over there. He said he would like to be involved. He may send out invites to all his past customers. I think if we can get 50 or so families together for a weekend it would be great.
As far as the date not sure spring or late fall would be good. As what to do or how organized I have to see what the interest would be. Bring your own BBQ or have it brought in. Lightly organized or planned weekend. Those all would depend on you and others that would want to do this.

Im sure if we got enough people we could have Macgregor rep or something like that show up besides Inmon boats.

The parking lot at the ramp in MDR is huge and we may need a permit (ill check Monday) but like I said if there is enough interest Ill put the effort into setting something up.
Let me know what kinds of things you would like to see.
Sailing events, catered BBQ, or sales reps anything you guys can think of and we Ill check it out.
It would be nice to see 50 or more Macs lined up in the parking lot with all the nice people to go with it.
Maybe some organized day sail out to Dennis Wilson's watery grave (I know the lat-long) Its a twelve mile sail out.
Maybe a seminar on launching, retrieving and set up for the new owners.
Whatever anyone would be interested in just post it and ill write it down and see if it can be done.

Mike, standing by for more info. We had a great time down there last memorial day...about an hour and half tow from Oxnard. It has a great ramp and acres of parking. Got to make sure the parking vendor people are in the loop. Great idea, and if you need a hand with something, I hope to assist.

A little more info, MDR ramp: would have lots of room in the fall or spring
Staying over night in your boat or motorhome would be ok as long as the trailer is hooked up, and you paid for two days launching. Right now its 8 bucks a day. I think the after summer rates are 5. Strange rule but they will give tickets to trailers that are not hooked up to anything. Having an extra veh is ok. There is a park right there that is nice too. The bathrooms are close, no shower, I might be able to set something up in the shower dept.
If this turns into a big thing then I would probably ask Macgregor or
The local dealers to handle the logistics, If we are fewer than 10 boats Ill
Get it ready with anyone that cares to help. It sounds like people are willing to get involved. If we are ten boats or so we can just plan to meet agree on sailing fun and have something for the kids. Bring your own BBQ type thing, pot luck whatever.

There is a racecourse laid out about two miles out. But Im not into racing
Much if theres an interest Ill contact the club that has the buoys out there and get permission to use the course.

Rich if you dont have a tow veh by then we could work something out
Between you and me. If you really want to go.

But The Mac is all about fun and relaxation so I think a Get together with
Light agenda and good clean fun would be the way to go. I think this would be better then a trip to Catalina or something because it wouldnt get canceled because of the sea conditions. And dragging your kids and my dog (Bridgett) on a seven-hour sail is rough on them, so this would be more relaxed and we still would get some great sailing in. To me it would
Be great meeting all of you.

Mike,

Sounds great and I appreciate you being kid and family sensitive, which will take some of the stress out of worrying about the weather and I'm sure will encourage more to participate. I know the Enterprise Sea, (and her crew) will be there one way or the other. I think I should be able to make arrangements with my dad or brother to use their truck for the weekend, especially if I have enough notice.

A Saturday Potluck and BYO BBQ would be a great idea. That could give folks Friday and Saturday Morning to get down to MDR. Imagine the fabulous photos of 10 or 15 Macs all out on a sail or even running around the Harbor, all heads would turn for sure with the sight of our own MacParade.

Im not into racing either, but if the weather is nice, a few mile friendly race/cruise could be a lot of fun for those interested, which I would probably do (with good weather) just to say, ya, Ive been in a sailboat race

We could call the Group the Fall 05 Mac Rat Pack (or something cool sounding.suggestions?)

I would recommend that the sooner we pick a date, the easier it could be to schedule the maximum turnout.any suggestions.any dates that WONT work for anyone?

The fall is usually a great sailing time as long as the weather holds, so lets get things rolling.

Im ready to help out as needed.

Regards

Thanks Steve, Just getting some Ideas now but even if we only have a few boats I will let the county harbor people know what we are doing. Even if it just gets them to let their people know about us so they are not
confused about whats up....I have talked to the parking police there and they are decent people, but they do want to know whats going on..

Hello There,

Might I make a few suggestions to roil the waters.

You might want to consider scheduling this for an extended weekend since people are contemplating comming from as far as Ventura and San Diego Counties. That is a significant tow. You might want to inquire about guest slip availability. I do this frequently here in Alamitos Bay marina. It is possible to reserve guest slips in advance and it really helps offset the hassle of rigging and launching to be able to enjoy the Mac in the water for a few days rather than hours. Guest slips run $.60 per foot per day in Alamitos Bay. You might even be able to buy a block of wharfage as a group and raft up.

Might I go so far as to suggest the Thanksgiving Holiday. Most people get the Friday after Thanksgiving off anyway. This would allow you to do the good family thing and gorge on turkey Thursday and then go on a MacScursion the rest of the weekend. This would allow attendees some open time to do solo or small group stuff coupled with some organized MacTivities on say Saturday. One fun idea might be to sail down to Kings Harbor and converge on their courtesy dock for a lunch then head back for an evening BBQ.

Theo all good ideas. and I wrote them down. As far as a guest slip at MDR
They are available but its first come first serve. I could probable put my boat in one to save it if someone would need to do this. Its .50 cents a foot.

It would be an easy walk to the ramp parking lot. But if you trailered you can leave the boat rigged as long as your there and can be in and out of the water in min.

I can just see it now 100 Macs pulling into Redondo beach harbor.
Home land security might get a kick out of that.
