saftey of dry dock at marina del rey
I have one more question for those who use the dry dock parking at marina del rey. I am close to making my purchase for a New
and would like to leave it in dry dock for ease of use. But I am a little worried about leaving a new boat. So my Question is have any of you who leave your boat there had any thing stolen and what safety precautions do you recomend.[/img]
New boat storage?
I keep mine in the driveway during the winter with everything removed, but during sailing season I keep it at the marina, but in a wet slip. Dry dock or wet slip makes no nevermind, I do not leave anything of value in my boat. All removeable electronics, GPS Conpass etc. Binnoculars cameras and otherwise get carried back and forth to the boat in a nylon suitcase/briefcase. I keep the boat locked but the piece of fiberglass it is attached to will not stop a determined thief. Better to be safe than sorry. Your best bet is to always remove valuables and leave nothing for a thief. Most marinas are patrolled to keep the honest folks honest but there is always the possibility of theft. Don't take chances.

Right up my ally. I leave my boat there and absolutely it is safe. I have never talked to anyone there that complained about anything stolen. If you go check it out youll see boats up against the fence into the ramp with outboards just sitting there. I wouldnt but they have been there for a year that I have been there.
Like a marina the owners look after each others boat. Are you buying the
White boat with the 50 etch? If you are its already in the storage next to mine.
I have to tell ya these boats are popping up everywhere. Last weekend I saw 8 Macs in the parking lot getting ready. Were you the one going for the test drive I saw?
Now I do lock my hatch and have a lock on the trailer, but I would do that anyway. Put it this way If I left the boat and forgot to lock the hatch I wouldnt panic and rush back I would wait till I got back next week.
Ill be there next Saturday if your around stop me and ill fill ya in on whats up. White M AGUSTA on the back of the captains seat.

still on the fence
The white boat is not mine but one just like it will be. I might opt for 60HP E-TEC. I'm just glade you have confidence in the dry dock. I think I would use the boat more if I left it there. This will be my first sailboat and I am looking forward to learning to sail. My wife and I did a test sail with Mike from Inmon Yatchs. I liked the boat and I liked Mike. Now I need to buy. I have learned a lot from this site and like the people. The Mac people seem to be helpfull with each other. So Im sure we will see each other on the water eventualy thanks for your input.

Sailfish: There are real advantages to being there. I live 20 min. away and if I just want to go down there and putts Its great.
I would go with the 60 the more power the less the engine has to work.
Mike Inmon is a nice guy easy to deal with too. Can you get the evenrude in white? That would look real good.
What options you looking to get?
If your interested let me know and ill post all mine for ya.
and if ya want any help just let me know.
you must be excited, Im happy for ya.

I actually fealt bad last weekend...out of the 8 MacGregors there, mine was the only one not sold by Inmon Yachts. The sales guy helping someone out with their new Blue 26M pointed that out...
Sailfish - I can't comment on the security yet as I have just left my boat down there, but I walked around the lot trying to see what other people did for security. As far as I can see it is nothing. That seems pretty reassuring to me. Also, your comment about using it more if it is in the dry storage...I absolutely agree with that. My biggest battle getting Molly to go sailing was she hated all the work setting up and taking down when we were trailering back and forth. It is far easier now that it is there. Just throw your personal stuff on, launch and go...

Sailfish,
Best of luck with your boat. I bought mine from Mike in Dec of 99. He has always helped me out with info and discounted purchases when he could. The guys at the factory helped with a couple of times also.
I suggest to go with the 60hp or 70hp too. Mike doesn't agree with this. He is much more a sailor than a powerboater.
Anyone,
How much do they charge for dry at MDR? Are spaces available?

It is about $89 per month. Lots of spaces available. This is from another thread about Dry Storage in SoCal:
LA County Department of Beaches & Harbors (DBH) offers facilities in Marina del Rey to store your watercraft outside the water. To arrange storage, make an appointment with DBH Property Management at 310-305-9566; Monday through Thursday, 7 am 6 pm. Office closed on Fridays.
they do require proof of ownership, insurance certificates, current registration, 2 color photos of the boat, ect (call and inquire)
