Well its been a while, progress was slow during winter with that nasty little thing of having to go to work everyday!
But I'm finally able to upload a few photos of how things are going. I now have running hot and cold water flowing in the shower even though I'm not quite finished with the Fairing of the fiberglass joints. Next week I'm trekking across west Texas from home here in New Mexico to Possum Kingdom lake west of Dallas for a few days so I'll line some plastic over the joints in the shower so that I can put it to use.
Have any of yall sailed Possum Kingdom? I'd appreciate any input of the area both on and off water.

After fiberglass (3 layers) beginning fairing of joint

Starting glass work on another joint.

Shower Floor, Note the coosa board to the right that the teakwood will sit on, the new coosa reinforcement for the area in front of the port-o-let that needed reinforcement after cutting the floor of head out, thats the only place I've got gelcoated in to date. (The little yellow arrow is pointing to a drainage hole in the coosa to allow free flow of any bilge water that may accumulate under my shower liner).

Trimmed and reassembled teak wood floor in place. I may have gained about a 1/4" :| of headroom as the finished teak wood floor rests right on top of the ballast chamber, The floor simply lifts up to access the low profile bilge pump sitting on the shower liner material so that you can clean up the soap and stuff on the liner between trips.

Soon I'll post photos of the water storage tanks, filtration system (the plan is to use lake water to shower in), pumps (3 pumps involved in taking a shower 1-pump lifting water from lake into storage tanks,2-pressure pump to water heater and cold supply to shower, 3-bilge pump pumping water out of shower floor liner back into lake. 8) Also the faucet I've created and the plumbing connecting everything.

What glue/gelcoat did you use? I’m using Totalboat for my head project.

Im using “ white gelcoat with wax “ from Fiberglass depot, I like it, drys fast , sand between coats in a few hours . But it’s also the only thing Ive used. I know many use the gel with no wax but Im happy with its application.

From my limited research of gel coat if you don’t use the wax for the final coat you have to use an air barrier for it to cure. I think?

Hi FittsFly!

You’re really moving along!
Looks very nice!
I’m gonna be envious of your hot onboard shower as I’m using a hand pump sprayer in the cockpit fighting off the gnats and no-see-ums! :D

Best Regards

Absolutely right, Tony.

Gel coat will remain sticky unless it is cured in the absence of air. Either cast it in a mold, or cover it snugly with saran wrap, or coat it with PVA, or, as you noted, use a gel coat specifically made for top coating (which will contain a wax that rises to the surfaces and acts as an air-barrier).
