I’m building a new garage in my property and would love to use one bay to store my boat in the winter. I’m thinking an 9 ft wide garage door by 8 ft high should be fine. With a garage dept of 32 ft.

With mast and stanchions on a 26x? I think you need 10ft


Somebody posted a pic of measurements once. I think i settled on 10ft high door and 32ft length w motor in raised position.

I'm putting up a garage for my "X" as well. When I started planning I measured 10' from the tip of the mast to the ground so I'm putting up a 12' garage. You need to check the actual measurement on your boat though. Your garage won't care how tall my boat is when it breaks your mast.

That’s how close the fit is with a 10 ft door.


And the tongue jack has to be extended pretty far to make the clearance at the end of the mast.

Now you have me wondering about my own measurement. I don't remember if the jack was all the way in or all the way out when I took that measurement. Good thing I have not committed to a garage height yet.

Sounds like you’ve got your priorities dialed-in!

I brought mine into the opening slowly until the mast got too close to the top of the opening. Then, I raised the jack until I got the clearance I needed. Then, I painted a white stripe on the jack so I can always raise it to the right spot. If I don’t see the white, I know it ain’t right…

Of course, I have to remember to look for the stripe.

Maybe its just me, but I'd go as high as I could afford. Nothing worse than a lack of headspace when you need to mess around in the cockpit once the boat is in the garage. I'd also be thinking about resell value - i.e.; for the next people who might want to buy your house and would be helped along in their decision if they knew their RV fit in the garage.

You initially missed out on a 2005. Not trying to take this thread on a tangent, but 45plus+, what year did you get? If you have posted it, I don’t remember seeing it.

Where I live I have to deal with high winds fairly often and higher walls mean higher wind loads. During the last hurricane that hit here I clocked 130mph sustained winds just a few feet from where the boat will be.

When I saw that chadwiseman lives in St. John’s, I had a similar thought; only not just for wind, but snow too. Since chadwiseman only says he live in St. John’s, it could be Antigua, they also get hurricanes.

Yeah we get lots of wind here in St. John’s, NL, canada… im probably going with 9ft doors and just remove the mast before i park it. It will only be moved in for winter storage and removed for the other 6 months a year.
