An Hileantoir III

Post by kingtoros »

I would like to ask for confirmation that this boat in this photo is a MacGregor:

Is this your boat Highlander?? If so, I have many questions, which you may have answered sprinkled around the forum, or in one place. If in one place, please happily direct me to that thread... If not, I have some questions collected here:
  • Why do you have a second spreader up top?
  • Is this a standard height mast?
  • Why do you have a backstay on a 26M?
  • If not a backstay, is it a flag line? It looks like it connects to the mast roller crutch
  • Is this right ... Spinnaker, Genoa, Jib, Storm Jib??
  • Is your boom custom because it looks shorter (as it does not interfere with the bimini)
  • Is the bimini braced on the outside rub rail instead of the genoa track? (I think this may explain my previous question)
  • That bowspirit looks different than the shorty BWY sells, is it custom?
  • Do you have a photo album I can look at all of your controls for these headsails...
Thank you in advance as I add things to my win the lottery list of things to add 8)

Yes that's an :macm:. That's Highlanders boat. I don't think the Black Pearl had as many unique modifications. You're only looking at the outside.

Since John does not frequent as much as he used to, if I may be so bold, I'll try to answer what I can. Hopefully he will be seeing your post soon.

The mast was extended (his design), so there are extra spreaders. He designed and built the bowsprit. I don't know about the bimini, but mine never interfered with the boom. BWY sells two different height bimini's.* , I believe John took classes on rigging before venturing to do his modifications.

*I just replaced mine with the taller one. I hope it does not do what you described.

And, yes, that is a backstay.

He's got more mods than Carter has pills. Hope he sees your questions. The answers will likely be epic.

EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE -- I can see some of the answers to my questions in your videos. It looks like you added a raised rail for all the various control lines

It is clear you have enjoyed the process, does she still float? Are you still taking her out? .. Are you accepting visitors, giving tours and demos? :D
