Nah, the picture thing is way beyond my comprehension.
Hull, I'm just getting onboard with the D.A. polisher.
If you haven't used this stuff, and you really want excellent results, a DA with the foam pads is da bomb.
At least compared to pure elbow grease and/or one of those stupid buffer/bonnet things.
My blacks have never shined like this with my old, jokey tools.
Same products used as before, mind you.
30% credit to the speed and motion of the tool, 70% credit to the different "grit" (color) of the pads, as designed, is my opinion.
Do some You-Tube-ing to learn how to get results.

It would have been interesting to see the results, but I’m perfectly happy with what I have. I’m sure there are board members who have benefitted from your experience.
Sail on,

Re: Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?
Hi NiceAft!
Liked your paint approach.
The topside deck above the rubrail on Over Easy is showing its age after 20+ years of sun and fun.
The below rubrail hull is still very good.
Tried getting it buffed and polished by a professional but he said it wasn’t gonna really be worth it.
The white gelcoat has worn thin and the black is faded.
He suggested that realistically a good paint job was gonna get the most bang for the buck and would probably be easier to take care of over time with regular light waxing vs. a re-gelcoat. Seems you might be on to something!
Although this post is a couple years old would you mind revisiting this topic with a long term update on how your paint work and wax has been holding up?
Thanks!
Best Regards

Re: Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?
I don’t wax the raccoon stripes. I made that mistake once, not any more.
It is important to be certain there is no wax on the raccoon stripes before painting. If you are more careful than I when you go forward, than wax away. I am probably over concerned about slipping and getting hurt.
As to painting the white gel coat, I don’t that will last long. I have never polished the deck. I just am not comfortable with a slippery deck, but if the deck is that bad, try the paint.

What about Alexseal Marine paint? Seems to be great stuff.. Andy on Youtube (boatworks today) loved it. (you use a roll on additive.. and it works)
I agree to get a nice polish it a TOTAL PAIN on the black.
And a yearly chore.
But then again.. you could have a boat loaded with teak!! (Ugh!)

Re: Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?
Thanks for this great thread!
We bought our 2005 26M this year. There is vinyl wrap on the black stripes including the forward hatch and the cross-hatched area in the centre. The vinyl must have looked great for a while, but it has begun to flake and peel at the edges.
We would like to remove the vinyl while respecting the gelcoat. From this thread, it looks like our heat gun could be helpful as long as we don't let it get too hot. Has anyone got a success story of this task?

Hi NiceAft & Adudinsk!
Thanks for the info!
It looks like we’ll be adding a paint job to our “To-Do List” in the future.
Well most certainly start with our 15 ft runabout Scrambled before we attempt doing our Mac26X Over Easy.
Probably do Scrambled one year and Over Easy the next year.
The prep work is key to any paint job and there is a lot to prep on a Mac26X!
🫣
Stripping, cleaning, sanding, masking, priming, painting, sanding , painting anti skid areas, applying anti skid, painting anti skid areas again, finish paint one more time and that’s just the white portion… then repeat the process for the black (after removing all the windows which will be replaced with new.
Will want to get a couple mods out of the way first before painting rather than have to redo/touch up.
Will probably limit what we paint to the ‘above the rub-rail’ as the hull itself is in good shape.
The Admiral wants to keep the ‘raccoon stripe’ which means a lot of masking tape twice over.
Once for the white coats and once for the black coats for the stripe.
We’ll be adding back the anti skid texture with something like Awlgrip that gets encapsulated within the paint.
Meanwhile we expect to just keep on enjoying our boat.
Just another chore to the list
(I’m gonna have to extend my personal warranty at this rate….
)
Best Regards,
Over Easy

If you use Benjamin Moore impervex latex high gloss enamel (black), please remember that it is not a viscus paint, it easily runs.
