Affordable knotmeter

Post by Stickinthemud57 »

I have been using and satisfied with a nice iPhone/Android app called SailFree, using it primarily for its GPS knotmeter function, though it has a host of several others.

Yes, I am aware of the shortcomings of a GPS knotmeter, but I think the advantages far outweigh them for the kind of sailing I do.

-SailFree is free, and only 4.99 for the paid version that gives the high-contrast display you see in the photo. Worth every penny.
-The mounting bracket is 19 bucks at Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MC ... UTF8&psc=1
-Will work with most smartphones or tablets.
-Requires no thru-hull or other modification.

One caveat; after using it all summer I found it created a little burn-in ghost on my Android phone. Not really noticeable unless the screen is white, then just barely.

Check photos for mounting. Can't wait to start using it once I get the boat back in the water!

Thanks for the tip! As for your screen burn-in, here is a link to some ways that can fix that. Don't know if this will help or not, but if you haven't already tried it, it's worth a shot:

Thanks! It's really not very bad, but I will bookmark this article. I just bought a small tablet that I will be using for this purpose, so I may need it for that.
