Dinette and Aft storage areas

Post by Steve »

:?: Just wondering what the heck could be stored under the dinette and rear berth storage areas? Seems like a lot of work to get to such little space. And again, what could you fit under there?

Also, what keeps things from sliding to where you couldn't reach them? Same goes for in the head under the sink.

Thanks everyone!

Hello:
I put netting inside each storage area to keep items where they belong. Each "net bag" is larger than the area so size of items is flexible. As for stowage under the aft berth, flexible fuel or water tanks would fit. So would fishing rods, spare dock lines or even flotation.

There's actually enough room in the aft berth compartments for quite a bit of stuff. I keep things I don't need very often, but can't quite decide to remove from the boat. Our hose for filling water which we never use, the collapsable rope ladder for the bow pulpit, spare prop, etc.

I don't find the space under the dinette floor is useful for much of anything.

We have a plastic garbage can that fits into the space under the head sink and lets us make good use of that storage for chemicals, TP, etc. We keep towels on top of the plastic can and nothing can get away into the bilge.

Be aware that all these low spaces, particularly the aft berth ones will get wet if you have any water in the bilge. Ours are normally bone dry, but one day we screwed up with the operation of the ballast tank vent at the stairs and ended up with water in the bilge which when underway tends to slosh everywhere. When I went to suck it all out and clean up after we got home it turned out hat the aft berth spaces weren't a good choice for spare TP. Only keep stuff there you don't mind getting wet.

I put my shurflo pump and accumulator there. Its a natural location and the pump is leaned upside down on the sloped fiberglass so that the bilge would have to be very full to flood the motor. I never get much of any water there anyway.

storage rear berth

Post by BK »

As suggested from Steve, I put about 8-10 clothes baskets from $.99 cent stores in the rear berth and using the gaff pole to retrieve a basket when needed. This works as the small baskets slide around easily with the pole. I orginally had milk crates back there and they did not slide which required me to slide in each time I needed something.
