I’m sure you took the L.I.E., because you would not have been allowed on the Southern State, or the Belt Parkway.

Glad you liked the Dawn Treader suggestion. Perhaps a little Reepicheep figure with sword drawn to adorn the bow? As for the name changing ceremony, as I recall there was champagne involved so the memory should be a good one!Herschel, Dawn Treader is a fantastic boat name and is for sure the new front runner. I'm sure a large number of people won't recognize the origin of the name, but those that do are probably people I want to know! My wife and I have both read the Chronicles of Narnia series multiple times and have read the whole series to our boy. Jackson just recently turned 9 and is really into reading fantasy fiction so I'm going to encourage him to start reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe as his next book choice.
With regard to the name changing ceremony, I am thinking that I should be exempt from needing an official ceremony because she was stripped of the previous names before I found and bought her. I suppose it couldn't hurt and it would make for a fun memory, but is it the right thing to do? What have y'all done for the name changing ceremony?

Ahh, close to Port Jeff. We spent much time in Port Jeff. There was a sand hole there that the chart showed as 1' deep and few knew that it was much deeper. Great place to go ashore for a bonfire. Now I think it's all filled with moorings.
Glad you enjoyed the adventure. All in all, that's not too bad. No blowouts or bearings burning up.

I was already considering incorporating the Reepicheep image into the logo. I have seen a perfect outline of the brave little mouse used as a logo on a science based youtube channel that we enjoy watching called Smarter Every Day. If you haven't watched Destin's videos, look him up and get ready to nerd out and binge watch all of it!
I'm pretty sure we took the Long Island Expressway but can't say that definitively. I was pretty much blindly following Waze gps on my phone while avoiding running over or hitting things. In any event, we didn't get pulled over or otherwise hassled.
After reading the lacking for sale ad on FB and messaging with the previous owner, it was obvious he had limited knowledge of the actual condition regarding the boat and trailer and I REALLY didn't want to go shopping for repair parts in NYC so we showed up prepared for just about anything. We had the Suburban loaded out with my Rigid cordless tool set, a portable welder, 100' extension cord, small air compressor, angle grinder, brake lights, spools of wire and connectors, toolboxes full of mechanics tools, a floor jack, 2 extra spare tires already mounted on rims, and a set of wheel bearings. Fortunately, out of everything we brought, we only needed the trailer lights and some wire to extend the harness. I'll install the wheel bearings this spring just as preventive maintenance.
My dad still lives in Southern CA and has expressed interest in boating around NYC. He's in his early 70's so I need to make that happen while he's still able and willing. I've read some forum posts and started researching but don't feel I'm very close to prepared for that trip quite yet.

Carful there; there are several of us in that age bracket. We are not yet ready to give up the ghost. He's in his early 70's so I need to make that happen while he's still able and willing.

Re: Unnamed 26X
And I appreciate your experience and wisdom!
To quote the legendary Jim Carrey as Lloyd Christmas : "Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose."
In all seriousness though, I'm old enough to realize that if I don't plan the trips and get Dad out here for a couple of the bucket list excursions we've talked about, the days will turn into weeks and weeks into months... and before we realize it's happened, years will have gone by and he'll be unable to make it happen anymore.
Unfortunately, I think he may have some mixed emotions about coming back east to visit again. The last time he was here about 3 years ago, he and I went sailing for an overnight trip about 50 miles up the coast of Lake Erie into New York and he experienced his 2nd heart attack (his first one required quadruple bypass) . While we were sailing, he didn't say so when it first happened but he began feeling funny about an hour from our destination. He came to terms with what was going on and informed us that he needed the hospital just after we finished dinner (it was a killer BBQ joint on the beach and we pigged out). We were fortunate...my wife and kid had driven up to Barcelona and met us at the dock to have dinner with us so we ended up leaving the boat tied off to the courtesy dock and hauled ass the 45 minutes back to Hamot, the best cardiac hospital in our region. Dad was backseat driving that I would get pulled over for tailgating or speeding (I kept it mostly 90ish mph). I told him the police would be our escort to the ER and kept on going. We weren't pulled over, and they admitted him right away. He had emergency surgery several hours later to get a stent put in. After a successful surgery and a couple days in the hospital, he was released and then got to extend his visit by 3 weeks while he recovered at our house. He is now 72 and relatively healthy and still works full time as an electrician at a private university.
With dad admitted and undergoing tests, I dropped of my family at home and hitched up to the trailer and drove back to the marina where 3 Hour Tour was tied off, getting there at about 2 am and loaded the boat in the dark with help from my little brother (different dad) and on the drive home, I got the call that he was scheduled for surgery within the hour. I went straight to the hospital and parked the Suburban on the street front of Hamot with the Mac still attached, taking up several parking meters with the rig.
Sorry about the little segue. I hadn't thought of that or talked about it in a long time...
And now back to boat names, lol. My kid loves Dawn Treader and we rewatched the movie today. My wife isn't sold on it and actually likes SPLIT PERSONALITY. Watching her face as I had her read my post regarding that name was hilarious.

Re: Unnamed 26X
svscott,
That definitely puts a new light on things.
Your concerns are valid. I hope you and he have more trips than you ever thought possible.
I also hope he is a better crew member than my dad was. Mine wasn't around when we bought our
, but he was when we bought our Phantom in 1979.

The first time I took him out in that tiny Phantom, he wanted to take the rudder (nine years in the navy, WWII & beyond). He would sail straight at people & boats. I would say "dad, watch out for", and he would say "they'll get out of my way."
I wish you years of experience with yours.
