26X head sink - remove it?

Post by Spector »

I'm thinking about removing the sink in the :macx: head. We never use it. Anyone done anything unique in there?

Probably keep the lower part of the cabinet, enlarge the door a bit and add shelves inside. Replace the sink with a top shelf and maybe another above that. With the sink gone I could eliminate a thru hull.

No need to remove the head sink, if you're thinking of cutting it out. I never used it as a sink either and it does seem to be a useless feature. Cutting it out partially or entirely could lead to a wtfwit moment after the fact or in the mind of a prospective buyer years later.

The basin does serve as a great catch-all, and the pump faucet spigot was a great TP holder. The under cabinet is a great place for storing foul weather boots. I fabbed custom shelving for typical toiletries stuff, then uninstalled it all when I went to sell.

Different strokes, I guess. I was considering adding a sink to my head.

I often thought the same. However, I have no idea how/where on the M.

I think I've seen the sink removed from the X. Left a nasty hole in the liner where it once was.

I removed the sink and most of the floor so that I can stand directly on the hull. I added flooring where the sink is now and mounted my potty there.
This gives enough head room to actually put clothes back on while standing on the hull, (with head bent over, I am 5'10")
NOTE: The ballast tank is partially under the bathroom, so if you follow me, do not cut too deep near the door.
Given the angle to the virt. wall to the right of the sink, I think this gives the max room possible.
After painting, it does not look too bad and makes an almost useless space to almost OK.

NOTE: Guess I still need to clean up my edges, but you get the idea.

I also opened up the V-birth in an attempt to actually sleep there with a real mattress. Took out the floatation and the anchor locker.

Hi LeeFrankPierce,

Interesting approach….🤔

What did you do with the anchor locker hatch?
Fiberglass it in place or make it an auxiliary fwd hatch?

Best Regards

Did not see a way to drain the water unless I sealed and filled the gap.
The original design allows water to enter and drain out the bottom of the locker.
Glassing is probably the best idea, would need to remove gellcoat to create an area of glass to glass.
Being somewhat lazy at times, I used SilkaFlex, that used to be called Vulcum to stick/seal the front hatch and then fill in the gapps around the hatch.
Discovered the product when working on a 68 Airstream.
I think it is the same material used between the front V upper shell and the main cabin shell.
Use this for my window installs too.
So far so good.

Often wondered if I could fit something like the following in:
https://www.amazon.com/Kangrun-Stainless-Folding-Faucet-Caravans/dp/B0863KTM9W
https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/yanyu-outdoor-portable-folding-sinkstainless-steel-wall-mount-with-a-cold-water-tap-caravan-for-boat-rv-camping-ynyu2776.html
https://www.ebay.com/itm/303947050388

Considered wall between bathroom and rear of cabin, possibly recessed.
Not much use for that space anyway.
Looking at the prices, possibly I could engineer something afordable.
