Has anyone noticed that MKRAWATS posted almost a year ago, and we never saw him/her again.

Don’t complain about the air conditioner. Things can always be worse. My son in Phoenix just had to replace his. He was happy to pay $13,000. The first quote he got was $17,000. :o

What happened to your 50 to kill it? I wish I could answer with the technical specificity that you would find helpful. I had multiple breakdowns that certified Mercury mechanics could not stop. Sort of like the quandary of whether or not to buy a new car, I finally decided that I was just putting too much money into repairs and still not having a reliable engine. TowBoat US is a fine organization, and they provide a great service, but actually having to use them with any frequency is pretty much a ruined day of boating and your credibility with family and friends drops appreciably. With the severe lightening storms in Central Florida, getting stuck with an inoperable engine in places where sailing is impractical, is, also, dangerous. So, I bit the bullet and went with the new fuel-injected Yamaha and got away from carbureted engines. IMHO it is better world. Seven years now and not one failure to start. :)

Thank you for the helpful comparison. Yes, I will...nay, have (mostly) made peace with the $5K for the new A/C unit. My house requires two units because of the second story, so we just have to do this periodically. If I hadn't been cranked up with anxiety over this COVID19 thing, perhaps I would have taken it a little more in stride. My wife has some of those dreaded "underlying medical conditions" so we have to toe the line in that area pretty carefully. My newest "delightful" challenge to my overall sense of omnipotence is that I apparently have a bat problem within the walls of my home. I have Critter Control folks coming out Monday to assess. Thankfully, I have a 3 year warrantee from last year when the "racoon from hull" attacked my siding trying to get to a rodent of some sort who had already achieved unauthorized entrance. But I digress....my wife and I did get out on Lake Monroe for a motor around today despite the heat. It is just good to be out on the water. And, Oh, yes, that 50 h.p. did come in handy for keeping a nice flow of air over and through the cockpit. 8)
