26M Alcohol Stove Top
Ok, my 26M does not have the alcohol stove, but I do have a Portable butane one.
Is it worth looking for an original style alcohol stove/burner as the factory would have provided..
Or.. should I stick with the portable one.
Do many people actually use the stove much... or is it just for the odd "brew coffee" moments... and not really worth the counter space taken up.
If anyone has any PROS/CONS I would love to hear them! (they are not cheap.. so do not want to put one in just for decoration.. lol..)
Thanks
Andrew

Re: 26M Alcohol Stove Top
I've never used an alcohol stove, but I do have a Butane single-burner unit in a carrying case. Works great, but for safety, I usually use it in the cockpit. Just to brew coffee originally, and lately to boil water for my little Melitta single cup cone and filter gizmo, or to make hot water for my oatmeal.

Re: 26M Alcohol Stove Top
I do not allow butane or propane aboard - it's an old rule stuck in my head from long ago and I won't change now.
Is it worth the counter space? Hmmm, never thought of that. I suppose a portable would save space.
As for Alcohol, on the boat I like it because it burns much hotter and gets things hot real fast. I think people like propane because it's 'easier''??
I don't have it so I'm not sure. Perhaps a screw bottle is easier than pouring from a tin can - I mean it sure SOUNDS easier. I dunno
In my motorhome it's like the stove in the house - you just turn the knob and the stove makes a spark and the flame appears - I suppose that is the really easy way - but I will not allow any natural gas into the boat except butt methane - and even that should be avoided when guests are present.

Re: 26M Alcohol Stove Top
I have the Origo single burner model that burns denatured alcohol, recessed into the galley top. There's a cutting board that covers it up, so no loss of counter space when not cooking.
A fill-up of alcohol lasts three to four days, cooking with five on board. Not all meals are cooked there, of course, we also have a SeaBQ on the back rail.
I can't recommend the Origo alcohol burner enough. It's super easy to use, cooks relatively fast, safe, odor free, easy to remove and clean. You do have to use heavy-bottomed cookware, because the flame is relatively centered, and you need some mass to distribute the heat. I made the mistake of buying a Coleman camping pan and it just burned the center and undercooked the edges. Changed to a good quality cooking pan and its perfect.
For us, all meals have to be single-burner. A typical meal consists of boiling pasta, draining it then in the same pot frying some broccoli and chicken , dumping the pasta back in, and adding pre-made can of sauce. Costco sells pre-cooked chicken in convenient sizes that makes the whole thing simple.
Breakfast can be a pancake mix: 2-cups flour, bit of baking soda, bit of baking powder, salt, premixed, put in a tupperware container with two eggs nestled into the flour. Take out, crack the eggs into the flour, add two cups of milk, and voila...boat pancakes, a family favorite.

Re: 26M Alcohol Stove Top
Great points made.
Never thought about the cutting board saving space.
And very good point about the cooking pan..
Great comments!!
I do have a BBQ (SeaQuest, I think.. not made anymore.. cannot find a new /compatible grill) I think it was a Canadian metal company that initially made them..
A something "sport" bbq..
Thanks for all the advice..
any more suggestions are welcome

Re: 26M Alcohol Stove Top
Yeah, I forgot to add that there is a cutting board over the stove - but my wife does all the cooking so I never bothered much about counter space although she does not like it if I leave my lines or rigging tools on the counter. (Most times when I am below I'm more concerned with the dry bar on the other side of the boat.
) She seems to be pretty happy with the stove part. Her big thing was hot water on demand - spoiled - I did install that - I heat up 2 gallons of water in the AM and it's good for her use all day long. She can access the hot water at any time from a shower hose thing that rests on the faucet:

Nuts...
Now.. I need hot water on demand

I think I will not show this post to my wife.. LOL..
I bought a sun shower.. but .... hot water on demand sounds nice.
(and an Air conditioner rigged into the boat is being thought about.. Already bought a new generator just for that!)
Oh.. and I must say, the boat is very neat and tidy..

Also have the Origo. We like it alot, only downside is its hard to clean around the grates as they're welded in. Never thought about having thick bottomed pots etc. Alcohol is safe and available at any hardware store ......or bar.

Your cabin is gorgeous. Love the flooring, table, and backrests. Your mods are top notch and look like factory OEM. Your skils are impressive.
BTW, you left some line on the counter.

Instead of flooring, I went for leopard, grrrr
I also just tossed a couple of nautical pillows for a back rest. More importantly, does BOAT have a parrot

The carpet looks cool too... although I am going to have to look into the EVA foam /fake teak stuff..
Wife likes the look, I like cost.

My wife would love the animal print flooring. AND...the parrot. Every boat needs a parrot.
Nice work Ray. I need to do something with my old flooring.
