Post by 1st Sail »

Thought it appropriate to post this in the R&M section as looks like to some work may be required.

Having lived in a "glass house" or two along the way from time to time in my nautical career, I will choose not to "throw stones" here. Just glad the guys cruised away from all this, hopefully without too much injury to boat and crew. :o Ouch, I knew there was a reason I don't race any more. :P

When ever I fly mine I serious have that clip in the back of my mind. Fortunately they kept the crew in the boat and the boat on it feet. Good for them. And a wise lesson for all.

When I priced the profurl they were around $2700.00 when they first came out I waited a yr & got a deal at the T.O. Boat Show for around $1600.00 new maybe less I,d have to go dig out the receipt & check , u can buy the top & lower sections separately & buy the rest of the kit off market makes it look a lot cheaper to start but ends up costing u almost twice as much u r away much better off to buy the whole kit in one complete package from Profurl , I,ve seen them on the net going for $1100.00-$1200.00 now but make sure it,s the complete packaged kit with everything included & no extra,s required to buy later !

I,m sure if u prowl the net u would b able to pick - up a good used one by now as long as u can b patient & bide ur time ! & wait for a deal :)

The expensive thing about the top down furler is the anti twist line used on the luff, as you can see the normal price for 9mm is close to $10 a foot, and we would need around 25 feet, that alone is a big chunk of change, the rest of the unit could be easily manufactured at home I would think for not much, a top down furler is probably cheaper for ProFurl to make than their normal furlers because it doesn't need the aluminium extrusions and joiners (The Profurl furlers are great but a real pain when they get old and the joiners break ), however because the Top Down furler is a bit new and a bit racey they charge 3 times the amount of a normal furler

Yep I hear u I think the 9MM is what is on mine so if u can get it for that price & make ur own top down furler go for it & lets us all know how it works & poats some pic,s

PS I see they r selling the profurl from $1500.00-$2700.00 don,t know why there is such a price variance ! for the same 0.9 model
