50hp for 175kg and it is a turbo diesel rebadged German Neander Shark being marketed by Yanmar. Given the recent history of diesel in the car market VW et al. I suspect this thing will be expensive, have high maintenance cost and will have trouble meeting EPA requirements.

For a commercial stink boat user you might recoup the extra costs in fuel savings but for a domestic user :?: And for a :macm: never :P

It is expensive! 29,000 Euros which equals almost 35,000 US Dollars. It targeted at the pro / off-shore market.

They don't show a prop size, but the prop shaft speed is very low (almost identical reduction ratio to the BF50, but much lower engine speed), so it's going to be a big prop. Good for low speed/no speed work, like work boats and small barges. Like the one my marina uses to build and maintain the floating docks.

BF50
Prop Speed at engine full speed: 2885 rpm
Prop Shaft Torque at engine full speed: 1092 in-lb [123 N-m]

Mercury Command Thrust
Prop Speed at engine full speed: 2575 rpm
Prop Shaft Torque at engine full speed: 1224 in-lb [138 N-m]

Yanmar Diesel
Prop Speed at engine full speed: 1932 rpm
Prop Shaft Torque at engine full speed: 1631 in-lb [184 N-m]

It's like a Bigfoot on steroids. :D

Well there has been diesel outboards around for a very long time..( Think South East Asia ) No doubt Yanmar has put time and money into this little work horse , but thats all she is , a little work horse and she comes in at a very high price..( Figuring 50 and 60 HP big foots can be had for around $8K USA...and this beauty is running somewhere around $35K US) Oh lets not forget the weight difference.. The Fat Sister right now if my memory serves me is the Mercury 50/60 at 260 lbs.. thats still a 100+ lb. savings.. Right now TTBOMK you cannot import a Diesel Out Board, not even a new yanmar..

A motor that cost more than the boat. Makes sense.

Forget it. Not at that cost and weight
There was a 20 hp diesel outboard few decades ago. Those make more sense

Yup, They run up and down the Elizabeth river past me training with the diesel etecs.

Mercury DI, Tohatsu TLDI, and Etec all have military models that run on diesel.

But these days you have to be green,, maybe I should paint the boat green and install a Torqueedo?

Only 23999$US plus batteries, and it only weigh 462kg (1018,53444pound) and it has an autonomy of 30 min at WOT with 2 batteries, and what about this:
"Low-maintenance system: switching makes sense from as little as EUR 4,600 in annual fuel costs – contact us for more information."

It all makes alot of sense :D

Yanmar is a diesel engine and heavy equipment manufacturer founded in Osaka Japan. 50p diesel is a highly refined, middle distillate, hydrocarbon fuel; and it contains less than 0.005% sulphur by mass. Quest Petroleum Diesel 50 PPM contains anti-foam components which reduce the tendency of foaming normally associated with standard diesel. This provides a spill-free, cleaner, faster and more efficient refuelling service.
