Ever move a Mac 26x/m with a quad or ATV?
Hello All, I am still looking for solutions to solve my issues with getting the boat in and out of my tight back yard ... Has anyone here moved one of these sized boats with a quad or ATV? Have you ever pushed it uphill? Was it in reverse or forward?

About ten years ago, I was moving my
on original steel trailer around on flat grass with my 1974 Bolens QS16 garden tractor. That's a 16 hp single cylinder Kholer engine, hydrostatic transmission and winter chained turf tires.
I think a quad would be capable - use a trailer ball. I can't speak about inclines tho.

I would think a decent sized quad should be capable. Much depends on the hill. But a quad's tires are probably better suited to traction than your truck. Give it a go. If it doesn't work, you'll learn soon enough.

If a quad ends up not being enough to push up hill you try an old jeep. My TJ Wrangler is 13 feet long and a lot less than that wide. I used it to slide my
next to my house. The Jeep turns very sharp so it was nice for a change.

I was thinking the same thing - my early-60's CJ5 would have pushed/pulled the boat around easily, in low range at least, with its puny little 4-cylinder F-head 'Hurricane' engine. Current quads look to me to be approaching if not exceeding the size of the old Jeeps.tlgeddes wrote:If a quad ends up not being enough to push up hill you try an old jeep. My old Sears lawn tractor with hydrostatic trans moves my empty trailer to/from the back yard, but without the boat on it. It could probably move it ok, trailer plus boat that is, on flat pavement, but not on soft grass. In fact, I have to move the trailer stern into the garage later today for the annual bearing inspection/replacement prior to an upcoming road trip.

I used to use an old Polaris quad for shifting my M in and out of a storage facility. I fitted a towball to the front and back. It involved a very tight 90 deg turn and a small incline on asphalt. The quad had enough power but traction wasn't great due to the light weight of the quad.

Another option on the quad for wet grass or a hill would be to put snow chains on it.

All I can tell you is that they use a variety of quads to move the RVs and trailered boats around, including my 26X, over at Holly Acres RV, Marine & Storage, where I had my 26X's shore power setup checked out. Not many steep hills there though, though there is a bit of an incline down to the storage area--maybe a 10 degree incline at most, and it's mixed asphalt and gravel not grass.
Judicious Google searches for likely keywords like "ATV towing" or "ATV tow capacity" will lead you to pages like "What ATV works best for towing?" over at the Yellowbullet.com forums (where apparently "the weak are killed and eaten", most likely with a nice fruity Merlot or perhaps a robust Burgundy), and to many other similar such discussions in perhaps somewhat less ravenous forums besides. As far as finding more info and a nice suitable used ATV for maybe even under $1,000, Quadhunter.com seems to be your place to start looking. It aggregates local listings from craigslist. etc., which you can browse by your locale, sort by price, and so forth.
So anyhow, yeah it seems likely you could get away with shoving your Mac around with the right ATV. If it's a pretty straight shot, I wonder if you might not also get away with a reasonably meaty electric winch with wireless remote control mounted onto a pole or whatnot set very securely into the ground, with a simple trailer dolly just to guide her up backwards into the spot. Your lawn might thank you.
