Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Where to look for 26C models for sale?
We are interested in getting a 26c (preferably an S) but can't seem to find one near us. Are there any special places to look? We have been looking on CL and even have a wanted to buy add up there. We have checked this site, ebay, Texas sailing, and a few others all without much luck. We are in Vermont but can travel a bit for a good one.
Any suggestions on where to look?
Thanks much!

Classified on this site.
Sailboatlistings.com
Yachtworld.com
Ebay
Maybe the best one of all is the Macgregor Facebook page. Nice boats come available there all the time, and you can often see the seller's history with the boat. Members often repost craigslist adds they come across in their areas.

Thanks I have been checking those sites too but overlooked the FB group. Is it the "MacGregor Sailboat Owners" one? There seem to be a few out there.
Thanks a bunch! I hope to move our family up to a Mac this summer from our Flying Scot. It has been very good to us but with a 5 year old we need a bit more space for longer trips!

Yup that's the one.

Thanks! I saw the MN listing. It looks good but fails on a critical criteria my wife has added, a private head
Hopefully as it warms up here in the cold north, more boats will start coming out of woodwork. Of course snow and mixed precipitation is predicted for tonight so we are not there yet!

That requirement will narrow the field to the motor-sailors, specifically the
and the
and the
. The head in these boats is small, but they're private.

A closed head for a bargain price probably means a 26X. Reserve about $1k extra to transform the porta-potty into a workable toilet...just because the heads is closed doesn't mean that it's pleasant to use.

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Thanks everyone! Last year we looked at 26S and the head was good enough. Small but enclosed so it passed the requirement. A porta pottie seems good enough as long as it has its own place.
We looked at a Hunter 23.5 but it did not qualify without the enclosed head. The Mac 26C also seems to offer more room.
We have seen a few nice ones but they have been out west. Hopefully something good will turn up in New England. Thanks again for all of the help. The FB group looks great.

I bought mine through Ebay (1990 26 S). I still follow new listings, but they don't come up very often. Here are some past sales:

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Thanks! Those are some good data points for price considerations. Of course I still need to find one for sale near me. The snow today and tonight sure does not make one want to think of summer sailing yet though.Stevenhigbee wrote:I bought mine through Ebay (1990 26 S). Check out www.kijiji.ca.
Set your location to Quebec and put in Macgregor 26 in the search bar. There's a Mac 26 for $4k cdn asking price, plus another at just over 6k.

Thanks! I had not thought about using kaijiji to target the Quebec area. Good find on those two posts. I sent both messages.Starscream wrote:Check out http://www.kijiji.ca.

Here is a search engine to check Craiglist ads in a region. Put in your zip code and radius in mileage and it will find all the listings.
http://www.searchtempest.com/search?loc ... axYear=max
Here is one in NY: https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/boa/6096730927.html
Another NY: https://longisland.craigslist.org/boa/6022794811.html
NJ: https://newjersey.craigslist.org/boa/6110497952.html
Helped a friend find one in this area just a few weeks ago.

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Thanks! That is a handy site. I have been using it and already contacted all 3 of those posts.
1. was a Russian scam
2. probably already sold and never answered
3. the other has been very slow about getting back to us
We have a few leads in Quebec so we might go that route. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
I found a lot of private sellers did not know the dif. between a 25 and a 26. So asking for the VIN is always a good idea.
