Mast raising base plate

Post by Hoffa509 »

Is anybody familiar with this baseplate? This is some of the treasures I found on the new to me MAC 25. The plate is in new condition.

The triangular piece fits on the bottom of the mast but the mast would rest on the bolt, not the plate due to the hole location

The size is similar but the holes do not match.

anybody have instructions or pictures on the correct way to mount and use it? I can think of how to use it but I don't want to drill new holes if there is a correct way to do it. How is the pin with the metal loop used? I do have a steel ginpole that came with the boat.

That's the mast deckplate and mating hinge half for the mast from an :macx: . The pin and loop is what turns the line for the swing CB, which comes up the compression post below decks, and turns 90 deg. to starboard (then another 90 deg. aft).

You'll probably have to drill new holes to mount it, but just locate it so the mast is in the same location as it originally was. Use the lateral hole in the mast, which pins the mast base hinge half to the mast, to locate the whole thing. You may have to drill a new hole in the mast if the existing doesn't line up with the new hardware (height may be different).

I would try to modify your current plate to match the hinge plate. I think it would be easier (also easier to undo) than adding holes to the boat.

The middle picture has the mast base bracket bolted in back to front. The holes on the base plate furthest from the welded loop are where a 26M style mast raising system would bolt on and are otherwise not used. The mast pins through the holes closest to the welded loop.
