Mac M Daggerboard original dimensions?

Well it took me about 7.5 years but I think I finally killed my original daggerboard.

I damaged it once about 4 years ago (accidentally drove onto the trailer with 8" of daggerboard down) but managed to repair it. The repair actually lasted until now so I think I did a pretty good job.

Here is how I killed it this time:

I regularly beach my MacM and when I do so I release the dagger (I know....I can hear the cringing from here LOL) to help hold the boat in place. Usually it sticks out about zero to 8 inches when I do this and I have found that no damage has occurred (until now). What happened this time is that I was at a heavy traffic area and every time a big powerboat (as I shake my fist in disdain) passed by at speed they tossed a huge wake onto the beach, rocking all the boats in the area. I guess I should have known I was going to kill my dagger board but since nothing had ever happened before I guess I didn't give it a second thought.

At any rate, I got home and took a look. I was shocked to find the entire bottom of the daggerboard gone. I pulled it out and measured it.....it is currently 62" long give or take a few rough edges.

I looked at all my literature but could not find any documentation on the original length. Using arithmetic I have a theoretical length of 71.5" but I know that theory and reality may not be the same thing.

Does anyone out there have one on the shelf they can measure and tell me? How long is the original daggerboard on a MacM?

I am trying to decide if I could live with a repaired (shorter) version until I can get some boat bucks and spring for a new one.

Sorry, don't have the measurement handy but I had to remark on the strength of the daggerboard trunk! I hear again and again about people tearing their daggerboard off, but not one report of damage to the trunk that I've heard of. That's reassuring. The daggerboard is pretty stout too, though obviously for good reason less so than the trunk.

Hi, I just measured my old daggerboard. It is 69.5 inches long. You could safely round that off to 70 inches as the daggerboard trunk is deeper than that. I used to have that dimension written down but can't find it.

P.S. I measured my trunk and found it to be 72" long.

P.P.S. I am sure there is a joke in here somewhere regarding relationships between daggerboard lengths and other stuff.

The bottom foot or so is weighted with metal, resin, and/or "other stuff" (floor sweepings) and has holes which allow for water to enter the daggerboard for additional weight.

Yep... On Dauntless the dagger board is 69 1/2 also. Mine is a 2011 just in case a different one was used another year. Ron
