Many thanks Jim. ... Will update you guys on how I goJimmyt wrote:I think Tom's approach would be better than a two piece spreader, but if you want to try the two-piece approach, I'm measuring about 30 inches for the first section to just scrape the lifelines. This is from your circled bolt measured along the spreader pole. Shorter is better. If I was trying it myself, I would go with 22-24 inches, due to everything flopping around during moving the mast in and out of towing position. Also, I had to project the lines, and nothing is square or plumb.

This is the collapsible version Erik used - you probably were aware of it. Go to his mods page and look under collapsible spreaders.

Re: Detractable or retachable Spreaders
Sorry Neo, not sure what the problem is. Works when I click it. Search for knot shore, it's a 26x. Erik has a lot of neat mods on the boat - one of which is collapsible spreaders. He used two pieces, 23" and 26" for an assembled length of 44".

Re: Detractable or retachable Spreaders
A crazy member of a sailing forum used to say that the SEALs should use MAcs... they would be able to sail to their objective (without making noise) using the sails, get right into the beach, thanks to the low draught and, after their mission is done, escape fast with the outboard at full speed...Neo wrote:It must been considered TOP SECRET intellectual property by the US governmentJimmyt wrote:Sorry Neo, not sure what the problem is. Re: Detractable or retachable Spreaders
U know u r playing with fire with that spreader clip they r really flimsy I,ve bust all kinds of them on my home vac & on extensions poles for brooms & window cleaners to roof rakes
Just saying they r not designed or engineered to take that kinda punishment & if u had a mast failure where someone got injured u just gave ur insurance company an escape clause !!!
but to each their own just my own personal opinion !

They're not so bad when you pack them on the inside with a boom handleHighlander wrote:Just saying they r not designed or engineered to take that kinda punishment

Re: Detractable or retachable Spreaders
I agree with John; I wouldn't rely on those spring clips alone. If a spreader collapses, the shroud will go slack, and the mast is at risk of damage or destruction.Highlander wrote:I,m talking about those little spring clips inside the tube itself !Neo wrote:They're not so bad when you pack them on the inside with a boom handleHighlander wrote:Just saying they r not designed or engineered to take that kinda punishment

Re: Detractable or retachable Spreaders
Well it looks like the same system like the cruch system
In mast up position you can easili put a bolt throw both tubes for safety...
