NiceAft wrote:Our approach is simar to DaveB. We used Sunbrella, and closed cell foam, but our cushions are at least twice as thick. I made templates of the seating area by taping together brown paper shopping bags and tracing the outline of the seat and back areas. I then went to an upholsterer to have them made. No where near the cheapest way, but I do not have the time or patience to sew the cushions.

We used closed cell because they are a firmer and thus better seating filling than open cell. The seats are box seats, and the back cushions are knife edge.

The boat is eleven seasons old, and the cushions are nine or ten. In all that time there has never been Soggyness problem.

Ray, how did you do the "knife edge" on the back cushions. I need to make back cushions and have a lot of extra foam, but don't know how to taper them.
I cut the seat foam with an electric carving knife. Keeping the edge perpendicular is tricky.

Try wrapping with thin plastic and using a wet - dry shop vac, they shrink up 80 - 90 %.

I covered the foam with vapor barrier plastic that they use in house construction and taped them with the red tucktape sometimes used to seal a recently damaged vehicle at the body shop. It has worked perfectly for 4 years now. I also changed the zipper thinghy and am satisfied with the zipper. I think I covered and taped twice.
