Storming this morning, sitting cozy dry on the :macx: in the marina, work on hold for a bit. Hoping to have the cat ready for a spartan overnight trip across the bay this weekend. :) If not will take the :macx: .
Don't worry about the interior. That'll buff right out.
Thats what I figured, think one bottle of polish will be enough? 8)

Same spot after a little polish...aka a week with a grinder and wire wheel, 2 gallons acetone, 6 gallons of 2 part epoxy barrier coat on the inside. I used the tuffstuff epoxy same as barrier coat on the X. Its suggested for bilges as well as barrier coating. It is really "tough stuff" Bumping it with an angle grinder wont even nick it. Eventually 99% of all the paint will be covered with actual interior.

Well, Matt, I guess that's another way to get a really wide boat. I guess Benetue is not the only wide boat out there.
Suppose so. Its actually no wider than most of the 30+ monos on the dock but obviously much lighter and shallower draft. Should be perfect for the light winds and shallow waters of the chesapeake. Roughly 30'x14', 6,000lbs, kick up rudders and boards 18" up, 2.5' down.
your post got me thinking...where there ever any hi speed motor sailors cats that were built in the mac size range.
same principal as the macs- just in a cat configuration- but with a 20 mph speed, possibly water ballast too?

Doing some research found a few later models were made by a company in the US (1990s) and twin 90s was an option from the factory, supposedly cruised at 25mph and they advertised water skiing :D .

All the windows have been resealed and re bedded with butyl tape. All the hardware except the new deck cleats on order and traveler track has been epoxy filled, redrilled and rebedded.

Roof soft spots recored and painted with kiwigrip nonskid.

Thanks, not real sure, maybe 50 a week so around 200 hours or so, thinking now probably more since many have been 12+ days and a few I had help... Still way ahead of starting from scratch :)

Friday kate and I sailed the mac the 15 miles up the bay to the inlet the cat is in and anchored for the weekend. Had a great time sailing both boats in similar conditions back to back over 3 days. I am pretty clueless on sailing the cat and using some random 30 year old mismatched sails, but the thing moves for how big it is. In about 12knts wind we were able to easily hold above 6knts on almost all points of sail and were in the 7s & 8s reaching which was cool. So far its putting a grin on our faces.

My private waist deep mooring field for the weekend 8)

Steering the cat...Where is the heel :?:

Yeah...Can't say I am going that route though. There is a guy with a really clean custom one and twin merc 60s that motor cruises at 15knts too. He has some videos on youtube but none of it in action.

I gave up on the 30 year old 9.9 yammie today and swapped it for newer used one to keep me on the water for now. Took off the tohatsu, on with old yamaha, off with old yamaha for repairs, back on again, back off again today and installed newer one. (same motor, different control movement and harness of course) Getting pretty quick at it, I think the people at the bar overlooking the dock are timing me. :( Ran out of daylight to try it tonight so that means tomorrow will have to be a sailing day instead of work 8)

The fore deck space is pretty hard to get over. I am using hank on sails right now and they just drop on deck nice and clean. We had the drifter up a few times (36x21) and even it is easy to manage. Its also a cool lounge area. Eventually Ill have to get around to making an interior though...

Since its a macgregor site...I finally got around to finishing the new cushions in the :macx: Initially we went with two fabrics, one for backrests and another for bottoms but it did not look quite right. So back to the store for another few yards and finished them all the same. Last time the basic upholstry fabric we used lasted about 5 years of heavy use and was still OK but needing cleaning. This time we bought better material a few months ago before we decided to get another boat, oh well.

Quick update for anyone interested. Another 2 weeks of long work days, a few hiccups but coming along well. Finally reasonably confident taking her out without anything malfunctioning or breaking. :) Think she is not looking too bad for 45 years old...

Last big exterior project, putting a new core in the cockpit floor, the whole thing is soft so the PO covered it with some plywood...

Its been a few months since the last update so figured I would put up a few more pics of how the Iroquois is coming together. I had to do a bit more buffing on the inside, but its coming along. Keeping the boat in the water all winter and not being able to trailer it home added about a 10x time factor on work.

Originally it had two twin and two single berths in the ends of the hulls. We closed off the two singles into storage & refrigeration and added a larger double on the bridgedeck.

Leveled out the floor and moved the saloon area back

A little more work on the outside too

Take my hat off to you, I wouldn't touch that project with a 39 1/2 foot pole!
You've done a nice job with it!
